Dear Dentists, I am seriously considering Invisalign due to the nature of my job, i can't have visible braces. I've been putting up with my overcrowded teeth and overbite for 24 years. Please advise if i'm a suitable candidate for the treatment. Your response matters so much! Thank you!
Great photos! Yes -- Invisalign is a great treatment option for correcting overcrowding and overbite issues. I do cases like yours all of the time, and the results are great -- straight smile, healthy bite -- you don't need to put up with not liking your teeth for even one more year.
I have a preferred dentist, but the Groupon is such a good deal. I don't know if this is a gimmick or not, or if there's a way for the dentist to provide less comprehensive Invisalign service.
Since Invisalign treatment is a professional service there are some legal ramifications for offering Groupons or similar discounts for this type of treatment. Align Techologies, the makers of Invisalign have notified all providers NOT to offer it in Groupons. Doctors and Align can get in trouble for doing so. So if a doctor is offering Invisalign in a Groupon, either they are engaged in risky behavior or they are using a cheaper, less effective subsitute. In fact they would have to use a subsitute in order to make a profit. BEWARE!
My family dentist no longer does invisalign and recommended traditional braces. He actually told me that teeth had to be shaved for invisalign and shaving is detrimental to teeth. Is it possible for my 15 year old to have invisalign without teeth shaving?
Teeth are crowded for a reason...not enough space. IPR, slenderizing, or shaving...whatever you want to call... it is one way to make space. It must be decided up front by your Invisalign doctor because that plays a role in how the aligners are fabricated. One alternative is to have the aligners made to move the teeth outward. This might be acceptable in some cases, but not in other. The down side of "expanding" instead of IPR, is that it puts the teeth in competition with the muscle forces of the lips and cheeks. So the teeth have a higher tendency to relapse back to where they started from - unless long term retainers are used. So IPR is helpful and sometimes required for Invisalign to work. Even slight polishing of the contact points helps to frees up the teeth that were crammed tightly together to help them move successfully.
