Why is My Nose Red and Broken out 2 Weeks After Rhinoplasty?

I had rhinoplasty exactly 2 wks ago. My doc put tape across my nose after removing the splint, which I removed a few days ago. My nose has since become super broken out and I have red splotches across it. It looks like it is red and swollen like crazy. I put on some acne treatment but am worried that this persistent redness will cause broken capillaries & swelling. Should I be applying cold compresses to reduce the redness/swelling? What should I do? I'm scared it'll cause permanent damage

A: Nasal inflammation after rhinoplasty

Redness and mild swelling are often related to a reactive dermatitis from tape adhesive.  When this is the case treatment with cleansing and hydrocortisone ointment is usually all that is needed.  There is a small possibility that the swelling may be due to infection and I would advise a visit with your surgeon to make sure all is well.

Is It Normal for Rhinoplasty Swelling to Get Worse After First Month?

I got my tip rhinoplasty done 8 months ago. When I went in to see my surgeon for the first month visit, he said everything was fine and that the swelling would continue to go down and I was even worried it would go down too much and that my tip would be too narrow. I remember I had a nose bleed that night and when I awoke the next morning my tip swelled and it hasnt subsided 7 months later. He says just wait. Is it supposed to get worse before it gets better? What could possibly be going on?

A: Expectations for nasal tip swelling after rhinoplasty

Nasal swelling after rhinoplasty is expected and can persist for a significant period of time.  I tell all my patients that they may have some degree of swelling for 12 to 18 months following surgery.  Most of the time the swelling gradually diminishes.  It sounds like your increased swelling occurred at the time of another event (nosebleed) which could have worsened the swelling.  Typically, this swelling is expected to subside as well.  If there has been no improvement over the past 7 months I would advise visiting with your surgeon to discuss the expected course of improvement.

I Am Unhappy with my Nose, but Don't Know What Should Be Corrected to Make It Most Esthetically Pleasing. Please Help! (photo)

I would like my nose to have a little more deffiniton in the bridge and to look a little less wide. I dislike the small hump that seems to be most visible on my 3/4s facial profile. I want to look like me but with improved confidence and everything to be more esthetically pleasing, but I don't know what features need to be tweaked to achieve this. I would like opinions on what could be done. Also my nose widens when I smile, is this something that can be fixed but still maintain a natural look?

A: Rhinoplasty procedure for better facial balance

Mason, your photos show that your nose is modestly overprojected with a bulbous tip and subtle dorsal hump.  All of these problems can be corrected with a well-performed reductive rhinoplasty with very natural-appearing results.  The goal is to better balance the size of your nose with your facial features.  It is important to insure that your surgeon understands your aesthetic goals and takes functional considerations (nasal breathing) into account during surgical planning.  Best of luck.
