Slanted Nasal Implant After Rhinoplasty, What's Causing It? What Can I Do?

Hi, I had rhinoplasty done a month ago and now that the swelling has gradually subsided, I see that the silicon implant is gradually slanting to the right. When I touch the implant with my thumb and fingers lightly, I can feel it jutting to the right. What should I do? Wait for till further swelling has subsided and maybe the implant will straighten out? The surgeon did open method, used an 'I' shape implant, reduced my nostrils and did work on my tip using septal cartilage. I need advice.

A: Silicone Nasal Implants

First and foremost ask your surgeon what he thinks has happened. One would assume that everything was lined up accurately at the completion of your surgery. However, regardless of the cause it will be necessary to revise a portion of your procedure to correct the problem you're seeing. Depending upon how easy it is to correct you could touch it up relatively early, especially if it is very obvious and causing significant concern. Otherwise the longer you wait for swelling to abate and for healing to progress the easier it will typically be to correct the problem you're having. Work with your surgeon to obtain a satisfactory resolution and obtain an outside opinion if you would feel better having another independent assessment. Best of Luck  Dr Harrell

Is my Nose Big? (photo)

Ok ,so im 15 y old male, and my nose is 5cm long and sticks out 3 cm.Is that considered big ?

A: Is my nose too big?

There's no set number to determine whether a nose is too big or not. Your height, the shape and size of your face and the skeletal features all work together to create a nasal appearance that either does or does not fit your face. Reducing the proportions of the nose is commonly performed with a high likelihood of success. You are still relatively young and so wait a few years to see if you feel your nose is larger than you like. By that time it may have become a non-issue. Best of Luck  Dr Harrell

I Have Very Thick Skin Around my Nose and It is Very Wide, Will I Get Good Results?

I am getting Rhinoplasty at the end of this month. I have a really wide nose and my plastic surgeon said he is not going to remove any skin but just remove the cartilage. It's the width of my nose that bothers me more than the cartilage. I have very thick skin and it's just too much that I don't think it is going to look normal if he doesn't remove the skin.

A: Best Technique for Wide Nose

You have to take control of your procedure to the degree that you feel confident that your surgeon understands your concerns and that he has convinced you that his plan makes perfect sense. In your case, since he is not planning on addressing the width of the lower nose your must understand why he is doing this. Right now it doesn't seem like the communication between you has been as good as it should be. There is no harm in seeing another surgeon, but look for someone who specializes in nasal surgery. Don't have the surgery unless you are very confident that the surgical plan will likely help you to realize your goals. Best of Luck  Dr Harrell
