Droopy Eyelid After Strabismus Surgery, Do I Need Surgery?

I had strabismus surgery on only my left eye 4 weeks ago. The alignment is fine now, but what I didn't expect is that now my eyelid droops. My eyelid feels like there is a weight on it that prevents me from lifting the lid all the way up. I did not have this problem before. Is this likely permanent? Would a blepharoplasty fix this? I had a previous strabismus surgery 25 years ago, and DID NOT have droopy eyelids afterwards.

A: Droopy eye after strabismus

When strabismus surgery is done a retractor is used.  If you have a slight weakness in the levator muscle it can be increased.  This may result in a slight drooping or ptosis.  It is a very rare occurence but can occur.  The treatment if that is the case is a levator repair.  This corrects the ptosis.  Discuss this with your opthalmologist to see if this is the case and would help you.  Good luck, Dr. Schuster in Boca Raton.

Orbital Rim Implants For Hollow Eyes; Anything Just As Effective? (photo)

I'm a young 24 year old but I have really bad Hollow eyes. It has been hard to find another case like mine, but I found one that is similar to me. I want your opinion on this case. What procedures would you do? Would it be as effective

A: Correcting the hollow lower lid

Although the implants are a possibility, this is not something I have used.  I would try a lipoinjection of fat to the sulcus.  You must use a board certified plastic surgeon with experience in this procedure to avoid complications.  Do your homework and see several doctors before you decide to proceed.

Considering an Eye Lift, Worried About Potential Scarring.

I have sunken dark circles & wrinkles under my eyes. I am 36 & have had these since my early teens at least. I would like to have an eye lift. I have Melasma, & have found that after acne has healed it is often replaced with a new melasma patch. I am concerned that the scarring will cause melasma under my eyes. I have also had non malignant melanomas removed about 10 years ago, & ended up with keloid scarring for 12 of the 13 removed. Every stitch mark is still visable. Am I likely to scar?

A: Blepharoplasty Scarring

First of all, the skin least likely to scar in the ENTIRE body is that around the eyelids.  Melasma can be treated, many times I recommend it be treated prior to the surgery to create a better skin foundation, then be aware that there is a very low risk of scarring from blepharoplasty surgery.
