I Read That Fat Cells Come Back After Liposuction and Tummy Tuck. Is Weight Loss Harder?

I'm considering a tummy tuck with liposuction. I read the results of a study that the fat cells redistribute after such procedures. My question is do these procedures make weight loss more difficult after surgery? Is there a correlation to the weight of the fat cells removed and weight gain after surgery? What is the optimum bmi of body fat procedure for a tummy tuck? Can Is it possible to achieve optimum results from a tummy tuck with out liposuction of areas such as the flanks?

A: Fat cells and liposuction.

The fat cells removed from liposuction do not "come back." Fat cells have an amazing ability to store large amounts of fat. What happens following liposuction is that weight gain is typically seen in other non-liposuctioned areas. Losing weight after liposuction is the same as losing weight before liposuction. Weight gain is a fairly simple issue - eating more calories than you burn. Increasing your basal metabolic rate through exercise and altering how much and what types of food you eat via a healthy diet will burn fat regardless of it's distribution in the body. There is no optimal BMI for a tummy tuck and liposuction during a tummy tuck is typically for individuals with more fat and less laxity issues.

Dr. Said He Would Preform Lipo During TT, But Didn't. Why Would This Happen? (photo)

My PS said he was going to do lipo on 3 places ( my muffin, above BB & hip's ) with me TT and didn't. should I say something to my PS. Scared to say anything that might make PS mad What should I do >>>>>> Plezzzz help

A: How to talk with your surgeon.

First of all, you should not hold questions back from your surgeon. This is a person you chose to have a major operation with and a candid conversation is warranted. How do you know that no liposuction was performed? Was the liposuction to be adjunctive and discretionary during surgery? Often times as surgeons, our operative plan changes due to factors seen during the operation. Safety is paramount in any cosmetic procedure, and perhaps your surgeon felt that liposuction in your case would cause more risk than benefit. Having an open conversation about this will distill your fears and provide you answers you are undoubtly searching the internet for.

6 Weeks Post Lipo Abs, Flanks, Inner Thighs and Back, Was Told I Was Fibrous After my Surgery. What Does That Mean?

large knots under the skin 6 weeks after ab, flank lipo. Biggest problem is abs. Bumpy lower ab, when compression garmet is removed. Scars from burns caused by garment rubbing against bruised area took 2 weeks to heel. Still not sure what that was. on my 6 lymphatic massage w/ zerona treatment. I was told I was FIBRUS, WHAT IS THAT? mild improvements. I am still in pain on my sides. As soon as I take off the garment hours later my deformed shape returns. Will take much change in 6 more weeks?

A: Fibrous tissue in liposuction.

Simply stated, this means that the amount of connective tissue was more apparent than usual. Certain areas of our body have more connections from the under surface of the skin to the muscle fascia. Some of these areas are so rigid we refer to them as "zones of adherence." Passing a liposuction cannula through these areas can be difficult. The "burns" can occur from rubbing of the garment. These usually heal uneventfully with conservative wound care. Overall, it sounds as though you had a significant liposuction procedure. It can take several months for the swelling to resolve. Stay patient and follow your surgeon's instructions.
