or does botox injection help with all facial lines and furrows?
Botox works well for fine wrinkles but is less effective for deeper furrows. Wrinkles that persist despite Botox often require a filler to camouflage them. The deep creases around the mouth (nasolabial and melolabial lines) will not improve with Botox. Also, certain wrinkles such as the small wrinkles around the mouth are due to a very important functional muscles. Botox in this area is unwise as it could affect speech and oral competence.
i hate needles more than anything becs of pain. irrational, i know. i heard botox cosmetic can be really painful to get injected. if thats true, i'll have to live with the forhead wrinkles!
Botox is administered through a very small needle into the muscle. There are several ways to administer Botox to reduce any discomfort from the needle stick. In my office, simply applying a cold pack to the forehead affords enough of a "numbing" sensation to allow for easy injection with little to no discomfort.
Botox is a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Botulinum. A neurotoxin is a chemical which inhibits the function of a nerve.
When your brain stimulates a muscle to move, it does so by having the nerve at that muscle release a chemical called acetylcholine. This chemical attaches to the muscle and the muscle then moves. Over time, the movement of the muscle can cause wrinkles in the skin overlying that muscle. What botox does is block the release of acetylcholine. When the nerve doesn't release acetylcholine, the muscle does not move. Over time, the wrinkles in the skin can go away because the muscle that caused them in the first place cannot move.
Botox usually takes 3-7 days to take effect after administration and lasts for about 6 months.
