Is dermabrasion still the best method to reduce acne scars? My dermatologist recommended it to me and I think (or hope) that there is probably a better way.
Of course there are many alternatives to dermabrasion as a treatment for deep acne scarring. Numerous lasers are available, all with their own proponents, as well as medium and deep chemical peel procedures, subcission of deep scars and use of various fillers. You need to find a doctor who will work with you to help you achieve the desired results.
I'm an African American and I made the mistake of having a full faced dermabrasion to help treat acne scarring. The results were devastating, I'm 31 and I have been left looking as though I am 50. What can i do to get rid of the severe post-inflamatory hyperpigmentation and aging skin? How can I now treat the acne scarring?
Tough problem Usually PIH will respond to appropriate treatment of hydroquinone and tretinoin, I think you use these products for awhile and then you could consider light chemical peels for an enhanced result.
I have been local superficial dermabrasion on perioral area for hyperpigmentation. After the treatment I figured out that is not recomended for my skin type IV! I very worried about it could result a PIH. After the treatment my skin was exuding some transparent fluid (no bleeding) that now is solid like a crusting area. I did not wanted to touch it cause I can make it worse. Please Help! I regret to have this procedure done, is this can left a scar? PS: white color is an antibiotic cream.
It is hard to say from this photo whether you may develop a scar in the treatment area. But 4% hydroquinone and tretinoin are highly effective in preventing and treating PIH. Good luck!
