Should I Have a Tummy Tuck Revision Surgery or Just Be Happy with What I Have?

I had a mini tummy tuck 2 months ago and Im pleased with the results however the dr ask me if I wanted to have revision surgery on my scar after I have healed of course.I have a normal horizontal scar and also a vertical scar where my belly button was and there wasnt enough skin to remove it all.I have a new belly button. He said he could get that vertical scar alot shorter and do a little more lipo.Im worried if he removes more skin it will be too tight but I would love this scar to be smaller.

A: When to revise a tummy tuck.

The ultimate answer depends upon your satisfaction with the results of your surgery. At 2 months, it is too soon to judge the final results. Give yourself at least 6 months before deciding. If you are happy, why undergo the procedure?

Best Keloid Scar Treatment on a Child's Face?

My 2-year-old son had a cut below the infraorbital rim. It didn't look deep so we didn't have it stitched. It was healing well until a few weeks ago, when keloid scar tissue formed at one edge. The entire scar is about a half inch long. Should I take him to a plastic surgeon? Can anything be done at this point or should I wait until he's older - but then, will waiting only make it worse? Any advice?

A: Keloid scar under the eye

The first determination is whether an actual keloid exists or if it is simply a hypertrophic scar. The skin at the infraorbital ridge is not typically prone to keloids. Proper evaluation is essential. Scar revision is an option, but you'll want to wait until at least a year before contemplating it. Often the scar improves so much over a year that a revision is no longer necessary. Also, given the age of your child and the location, a revision may require anesthesia beyond simple local injection. Consult with a plastic surgeon, specifically a pediatric plastic surgeon to assess the scar and give you your options. If you need a referral, I suggest calling the children's hospital in your area for Board Certified Pediatric Plastic Surgeons.

Will Fillers Help for Depressed Surgery Scar?

I have a depressed facial scar with some large pores around it. The scar is on the cheek and was a surgical scar. I am considering a filler. Can this option be successful? Thanks.

A: Fillers for depressed scars

A depressed scar of the cheek can be improved with fillers. However, fillers are temporary and would need to be repeated (which gets very costly over time). A more permanent solution would involve fat grafting or even dermal fat grafting. If the scar is actually adherent to the underlying bone, surgical release prior to fat grafting can help tremendously.
