What Do to with Swollen Lip After Massaging a Lump? (photo)

I've been having problems with my lips from day 1 since getting juvederm injections. Basically I've delt with swollen top lips, swollen bottom lips.. and now again my top lip is swollen because I saw a lump on the right side of my top lip and decided to massage it out. I did this at 12:40 pm, it is now 9:10 and my whole top lip is fat and huge and the area above my lip is huge. I basically look like an ape. Is this normal to have swelling after massaging a lump out. And what should I do now?

A: Swollen lips after Restylane

I would advise that you use some ice and take some Motrin or Advil to minimize the inflammation. I also use oral steroids such as prednisone for treating post injection swelling.

Since these products are sugar based materials, they tend to attract water and will swell for a few days. Using some steroids for a few days will help wtih the most severe reactions and quickly bring down the swelling

Recently Discontinued Having Lips Filled and Now Have Lip Wrinkles, Will These Smooth Out?

So I am 24, and have now decided to go back to my smaller lips, because I dont want to have to go in every 6 months for the rest of my life. Its been 8 months and I am seeing a lot of wrinkles on my lips, I never had these wrinkles before, will this ever resolve on it own? I have had 3 injections in my lips, please also give me advice on the longterm problems of getting fillers in my lips

A: Lip wrinkles after fillers

There are a number of reasons why you may be seeing wrinkles around your lips that you had not noticed when you started getting fillers in them. 1st of all, if I do the 'math' it sounds like you started getting them injected about 2 to 2 1/2 years ago. In that time you have gotten a little older, and some lines in the lip body may be normal for you. Also, over this period you've paid closer attention to your lips than you probably did before the 1st injection. My advice - give it some time so the lips can readjust. You can always get them re-filled if you can't stand it, but perhaps you want to fill less than before and slowly 'wean' yourself off the fillers. Beware of permanent fillers in the lips - remember Permanent Fillers can mean Permanent Problems. I would also caution you against any procedure that leaves a scar around your lips or mouth.

Lip Augmentations Lift Injectable? Juvederm, Collagen, or Restylane?

Which among of these (Juvederm, collagen, or Restylane) pose lesser risks of getting complications related after a lip augmentation lift?

A: lip augmentation

The best lip augmentation is the one that accompishes what you want. For some of my patients, they need volume and dont really have lips to speak of. They need a lot of volume and i use thicker fillers such as Perlane or Restylane. Other people have great shape and thin skin and for those I use Juvederm Ultra.

Collagen has not been used for years, it has been gone for so long that no one uses it anymore.

It used to be ok for the lips but was lumpier than the gel based products used today

I would NOT use Sculptra or Radiesse in the lips, they tend to form clumps.
