I'm interested in learning more about fraxel laser resurfacing. what is fraxel best for treating?
Fraxel is one of the best for "fractional resurfacing". To understand what fractional resurfacing means, imagine an eraser that wipes away the skin- this would be the old CO2 and erbium lasers. The newer fractional ones remove "fractions" of skin leaving behind islands of normal skin that can repair the adjacent areas.
Fractional is great for improving the texture and fine lines of the skin. In addition, it is great for some types of scars such as certain acne and burn scars.
One area of increasing interest is the use of these lasers for stretch marks. Although these are still tough to treat, Fraxel has been used to help their appearance.
This is one of the most popular lasers in the practice because there is minimal downtime.
seeking a great fraxel laser doctor. what should i look for?
Finding a great Fraxel doctor means finding a great doctor.
By that, I mean that a great Fraxel doctor needs to understand the skin, lasers and how they interact. A great doctor will try to listent to what the patients want and help them decide if the Fraxel can accomplish their goals.
The Fraxel laser is a great device but the outcomes depend on the energy settings used and this requires the physician to decide how thick the person's skin is, what their pigment can tolerate and what their level of discomfort will be.
The post treatment care is as important as the procedure (or any procedure). This requires a physician that can figure out what happens if there is a problem (rare but stuff happens).
I use several lasers and Fraxel is one of them. I love using the lasers because they enable me to fix things that I otherwise could not. When choosing a physician for a laser treatment, make sure that he or she has experience and has several devices (so they are not trying to do everything with the only laser they own or that they are renting them which means they wont have enough experience to get good).
I have been to a couple of plastic surgeons. One says to get facelift, another says to get Fraxel. Can I have the Fraxel done first and then do the facelift in the same year? I also just had Thermage done 1 month ago, with no results. Will this affect any of these procedures?
Dear SaggySkin
Your name tells me a lot. I will assume (and that may be a mistake) that you feel you have a fair amount of excess skin on your face and it is hanging. If that is the case I don't think Thermage will have a significant effect but it does take 3-6 months to see the effect from Thermage and you have to look at your pre and post op photos to evaluate this effect.
I like to think of a facelift as alterations and laser as pressing. Sometimes you need just one and sometimes you need both. In my patients I prefer to do the facelift first as I now know where the key landmarks will be followed by the laser. Sometimes, I will combine facelift and laser in the right patient but with a much more superficial lasering to avoid complications.
I hope this helps you with your decision.
