Can I Have Cheek Implants While I Have Existing Radiesse?

I have had six 1.5cc syringes of Radiesse injected in my cheeks over the past two years. The last two were injected in October 2011. I would like to have combined malar implant surgery in March 2012. How would the Radiesse affect the implant surgery? Should I wait? If so, how long?

A: Wait at least a year after Radiesse

I would not jump into cheek implants so soon after Radiesse.  It lasts 12-18 months.  If you do it while the Radiesse is still in place you may underestimate the volume of the cheek implant needed.  I would advise you to wait at least a year after the last injection and then proceed cautiously.  Good luck with your decision, Dr. Schuster in Boca Raton.

Swelling After Cheek Implant and Buccal Fat Removal

Hi All. I Had Cheek Implant 2 1/2 Weeks Ago and Buccal Fat Removal. I'm still so much swollen and quite nervous whether this is common or not. Everybody is asking me if I got my wisdom teeth taken out. Although everything else is pretty normal as I have no fever and no other irregularities I feel doubtful.

I have the feeling the swelling is altering. One day the left side is more swollen and the next day the right hand side. Is that possible? Is there anything I could do to speed up the healing process or to relieve the swelling quicker? Many thanks

A: Swelling after implant removal

It is not unusual to have swelling.  There was an empty space that now may be filing up with fluid.  Provided there are no other problems, this will resolve on its own in all liklihood.  I would call your doctor's office as he/she may be able to give you a steroid to speed up the resolution of swelling, but if you are bothered by the swelling, definitely go back to see your doctor.

Cheek Implants - Sutured or Screwed?

I want to get cheek implants, just small ones that will add some slight definition but not make me appear like another person. One plastic surgeon (who I have gone to before and really liked his work) places the cheek implant in and sutures it. However, another surgeon that I contacted actually screws his in. My main concern is that the implant will shift. Why do some surgeons choose sutures and others screws? Is one better that the other? Pros/ cons of each. Thanks

A: Screwed or sutured?

Both techniques work however I prefer to use a pullout suture just to hold the implant in the pocket for the first few days.  After that period I feel the implant will stay put in the pocket if the pocket is created properly.  Good luck.
