A: Breast reduction if still growing

Bambi, I have treated about 10 patients like you, including two sisters 3 years apart.  They were both very large and still growing.  They were bothered by the weight of the breast and that they were always stared at for their breast size.  If you have your parents support, I would look into having a breast reduction.  If you are still growing then I would consider a liposuction breast reduction, at least to reduce the weight and size.  If your skin is good you may not even need additional incisions, but this is something for you to discuss with the plastic surgeon who examines you.  Discuss your concerns with your parents and proceed from there.  Good luck.

What Do You Suggest For My Uneven Breasts?

I started to notice that my breasts were uneven about 2 years ago. I have always known that breasts are asymmetrical, but mine about a cup size different! My left side is about a DD and my right is a D. I am 18 and was hoping that they would even out by now. I am now considering getting a reduction, but I don't know if it is the best thing to do. I'm tired of having trouble finding a bra or even dresses, and I feel really insecure about the way I look.Should I wait? Or just get the reduction?

A: Breast reduction is the right answer

Thank you for the photo ymor.  In looking at you you appear to be at least a d to DD breast cup size.  Since you are only 18 I am curious if your breast size has changed over the last 6 months to one year.  I don't recommend a breast reduction until patients have had a stable breast size for at least 6 months and prefereably one year.  That being said, I believe you are a good candidate for a breast reduction using either a vertical scar or anchor scar.  Have a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon to see what your options are.  Good luck, Dr. Schuster in Boca Raton.

Breast Reduction From DDD to C?

Hi I'm 18 years old and a 32DDD ..well slightly larger now, going in for a new bra fitting tomorrow.I've discussed a reduction with my parents; we were hoping to get some doctors opinions. Hoping to be a C.. I deal with a lot of pain in my shoulders, neck and back. Physical activity like running is difficult; it's definitely psychologically frustrating as well. Everyday a have significant indentations from my bra straps as well..I feel like its negatively impacting my life..

A: Breast Reduction in Teenagers

Several years agi I wrote an article about this subject and I was amazed at how many patients came in requesting breast reduction.  There are several things to consider with breast reduction in Teens, and the two most important are 1) is the breast still growing and 2) are you willing to accept scars.  I would seek the advice of several plastic surgeons in your area, and there are quite a few very good ones.  On occassion I have been able to reduce breast volume by just liposuctioning the breast, but this is the exception and NOT the usual case.  In patients like you with what might be considered juvenile hypertrophy, you may be a candidate for the procedure but only an experienced board certified plastic surgeon would be able to determine this.

The second point is that you must be willing to accept that there will be scars.  They usually fade, but they can be noticeable.  Saying that, I know of no patient who after the fact would trade the scars for all the symptoms of large breasts.  Good luck to you and its great that your parents are supportive of this.  Dr. Schuster in Boca Raton
