Is the Vi peel a type of enzyme peel? I heard of this peel(Vi peel) that people can use at home because its so gentle. I was told that that this peel would be good for those using Obaji products which can cause the skin to desquamate in some cases. This peel is supposed to be so gentle you can do it at home everyday to help eleviate a lot of this dead scaling skin so that the peeling effect is not that bad.
The Vi peel is not a peel or enzyme that can be used at home, as the procedure does require a higher understanding of skin types, technique, and the risks involved...
This peel is a synergistic blend of phenol, TCA, salicylic acid, retinoic acid and vitamin C that must be applied in a medical environment. After having the VI peel, patients experience moderate to extreme peeling and redness on day 3-5 and begin to look their best after 7-10 days. I would only recommend having the Vi peel prior to starting or following completion of the Obagi System.
I'll be applying the Vi Peel after I come out of the shower, so my skin will already be thoroughly cleansed. Will Acetone still be necessary? Thanks.
Hi there-
Even though your skin will be thoroughly cleansed I would still recommend using acetone prior to a VI peel. The acetone will help to remove any residue possibly left behind by a cleanser and allow more effective penetration of the peeling solution.
I got a Vi Peel 3 days ago and my skin starts to peel off, and the skin turned to brown too. It also was really easy for me to take the dead skin off, so without thinking, I took plenty of the dead skin off, but some of the new skin is pretty red and it hurts a little. I'm wondering, will the redness be gone after the peeling process is over, or it may take longer for my skin to recover?
Hi there-
Everything you have explained sounds like a normal reaction to the vi peel.
It is very important however that you do not try to pull off the dead skin as this can take healthy tissue with it and leave the new skin very red and inflamed.
The redness will heal but may take a few days to subside after you have finished peeling. Typically the peeling process is complete by the end of day 5 and then the skin remains pink and somewhat sensitive for another 2-3 days after that.
By day 10, most patients are very pleased with how their skin looks and feels and do not have any remaining redness or irritation.
