Are there diet restrictions or suggestions that I should be aware of in the weeks leading up to male breast reduction surgery? Are there any exercises that I should or shouldn't do?
Hi there-
As long as you are in generally good health, there should not be any specific medication or exercise regimen necessary to optimize your chances of a healthy and smooth recovery.
I would, as others have written, avoid foods and medications that would thin your blood, such as aspirin and ibuprofen (and all medications containing them). Your surgeon's office should be able to provide you with a comprehensive list of what to avoid.
In addition, there are now several well-done studies indicating that the proper combination of arnica montana and bromelain (both are dietary supplements and do not require a prescription) is effective in diminishing time to resolution of swelling and bruising after elective plastic surgery procedures.
Many of my own patients have followed this regimen and I do believe their recovery was shortened a bit- but I'm not sure it was enough to say everyone should be taking these supplements before surgery.
Do your homework and see what you think is best for you- but before doing anything, please be sure to let your surgeon's office know, and make sure it doesn't conflict with their plans for you or their instructions for your recovery.
Im over 350 pounds and want to bet a breast reduction and lipo in pelvis and abdominal area. is it safe and whats the estimated cost. breast are large like as a female's and very embarrassing and there is a pouch over pelvis that is hard to lose.
Hi there-
Unfortunately, I would not recommend surgery for you at this time... Pursuing surgical improvement before addressing the root problem (excess weight) is likely to leave you with a long term outcome you end up wishing was better, and placing you at unnecessary risk in the process.
My best advice to you is for you to pursue a healthy lifestyle change (visit your doctor to be sure you are healthy enough for exercise) including changes in your diet.
Once you are at a healthier weight for you, proceeding with surgery for improvement of these areas should be safe and effective.
Hi there-
Of course, the only way to be able to definitively advise you would be to examine you- without an in person exam, it is not possible to estimate the relative proportions of fat and skin for you, nor to make a responsible recommendation for a surgical procedure likely to give you a pleasing outcome.
If your excess is truly mostly skin (which would be expected given your current level of fitness and your significant weight loss), you will eventually need to consider some kind of an abdominoplasty procedure. Please don't be fooled by false promises of skin tightening being made by manufacturer's of machines or the irresponsible and marginally ethical physicians who aggressively market them.
There is no such thing as "non-invasive skin tightening".
If there is excess fat, suction may help you, but an exam is necessary.
