I'm 22 years old and have very fair skin. I didn't use to wear sunglasses or use sunscreen when I was a teen. Now I have wrinkles around my eyes which are visible when I laugh. I've started to use Retin-A 0.25% two weeks ago. My skin tolerates it very well and is so soft now. But will it disappear my crow feet if I'll use it in long terms.
Retin-A helps build collagen in the skin and, in doing so, helps decrease fine lines and wrinkles. This process is slow, taking months, so be patient. Wrinkles at the crow's feet are caused also by repeated contraction of muscles when smiling or squinting. Botox or Dysport can help relax these muscles and will give a more immediate improvement.
I have crow feet under my eyes caused from sun. I have never smoked and I have a balanced diet. I didn't use to wear sunglasses as a teen or applying sunscreen regularly. Now I'm 22. I have mixed, blemish free, fair skin. I'm considering to start using Retin-A 0.25. I tolerate Retinol good and I'd like to minimize the side effects of Retin-A by using Retinol first for around a week if it would help.
Retinol is much like a mild version of Retin-A. Since the skin develops tolerance to these types of medications, the week of retinol should help when you start Retin-A. I also suggest to my patients that, although the goal is to use Retin-A every night it is best not to start that way. Patients seem to have less dryness from the Retin-A if they start using the product once a week for a few weeks, then twice a week for a few weeks, then three times, etc.
Although my doctor says it is ok to use Retin A 2 months after my total fraxel, I read on an internet site that it could interfere with the collagen production from the fraxel. I follow all precautions including moisturizing and use of sun screen.
In fact, retin-a may augment the production of collagen and inhibit the enzymes that breakdown collagen in response to sunlight. Do not worry, retin-a is definitely safe.
