Can a Mid Face Lift Help with the Baggy Cheeks? I Have Big, Baggy Droopy Cheeks. (photo)

when my face is in a neutral positionI have baggy cheeks that looks saggy from nose down. When I smile my cheeks lift up and i then have a heart shaped face but when in neutral position it is more like a square it looks like I have more cheeks on my lower face than on my cheek bones but I cannot say I have flat cheekbones either.what is the best solution to treat that? I have tried fat injections before which helped with the cheek enhancement around the bone, is a mid face lift solution for me?

A: Mid Face Lift = Long haul for Short Slide

I personally feel that the subperiosteal midface lift is a procedure that is overly aggressive, high risk, low yield, and a procedure I rarely use.  It was considered an interesting development in the 1990's and was probably over-utilized.  I would like to second Dr. Haeck's opinion and would not recommend this procedure for you.  If anything, fillers and/or a form of Botulinum toxin type A (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin) would be a preferable.

Will a Lower Facelift and Necklift Remove Sleep Lines Below Eyes?

i am planning to have a lower face and neck lift. i am not having any eye work done. But I do have sleep lines that go more vertical below my eyes. With the trimming and some stretching of the skin toward the ears, will some of these sleep lines be improved? Thank you very much

A: Rejuvenation of the Area Under the Eyes

A Facelift will not address aging changes around the eyes.  A Facelift is designed to lift the mid-facial area, contour the jowls and jawline, improve marionette lines, and contour the neck.  A lower eyelid Blepharoplasty and/or laser resurfacing will be required to achieve a measurable change in the periocular area.

Sagging Jowls - Is a Mid-Face Lift Needed with Lower Lift?

I am 54, but look slightly younger. I don't mind the normal aging around my eyes, etc. but my sagging jowls bother me. My Plastic Surgeon says he would not recommend having a lower face lift without at least also doing a mid-face lift, as well as a brow lift. Now he has agreed he would feel comfortable doing the lift without a brow lift, but says he would definitely recommend a mid-face lift with the lower face lift. Is it really necessary to also have a mid face lift with a lower face lift?

A: Midface Lift with Lower Facelift

At age 54, you likely have some element of midfacial descent/deflation in combination with jowls.  The hallmark of  a well performed procedure is a harmonious look; addressing the jowls without addressing the midfacial area leads to a look known a s the "lateral sweep".  A complete Facelift will address the midfacial region in addition to the jowls, jawline, and neck.  Whether or not a brow lift is indicated is more subjective and would be based on your anatomy and your desires.
