Misinformation Concerning ECO2 Laser and Malar Bags?

I'm 42 and about to undergo laser resurfacing of my lower eyelids to improve some crepiness of the skin. My surgeon uses the eCO2 laser, which brings me to my question. I've read a few posts from patients expressing concern that this particular laser caused damage to their Malar Bags.Is this a complication that is more likely with a full face resurfacing procedure,or is it a complication to be concerned about at all? Looking for a clarification on the topic.

A: eCO2 and Malar Bags

The eCO2 laser, made by Lutronic is a very effective form of fractionated CO2 laser.  It is no more or less likely to cause damage to the malar area or any other area than any other brand of fractionated CO2 laser.

Can Laser Resurfacing Cause Acne Breakouts?

I've had 3 pixel laser sessios done and have experienced breakouts afterwards. My derm told me it has nothing to do with the procedure, but I had never had acne before on my left cheek and when I peeled after my first session I had quite a few pimples and it was quite a shock... the worst episode took place 5 days after my last session: 2 huge cysts popped there (on my left cheek) out of nowhere, and now I'm left with 2 very nasty icepick scars... Is it possible that laser triggered my acne?

A: Acne after resurfacing is not uncommon

As Dr. Madrea mentioned there is a biologic reason to develop acne after resurfacing and also because of the post-procedural care.  Thicker ointments which help with wound healing can sometimes clog pores and cause acne=like lesions, but this is short-lived, will not scar, and is usually not much a problem several weeks after.

Best Laser for Flat, White Hypopigmented Scars from Glass Shattering on Lower & Upper Thigh on Olive Skin?

I have several flat straight-line white scars on my thighs from glass shattering in an accident 10 years ago & have olive skin tone. Will laser help? I have been told an ablative or CO2 laser may cause hyperpig w/ my skin tone. I have also been told nonablative & fractionated won't help. Should I do fractionated or non? Ablative or non? Erbium or CO2? Sciton, Fraxel, Palomar, Mixto or which other laser will work best? Can the scar shrink in width or ever get pigment? What are the dangers?

A: Fractionated lasers can help hypopigmented scars

Hypopigmented scars are felt by some to be caused by a thin sheet of scar tissue that sits like a plate in the upper levels of the skin.  As a result the cells that make color (melanocytes) have a hard time getting back to the area to color the skin like before the trauma.  By poking microscopic holes in it with a fractionated laser, some also feel that the cells can migrate back in and being to repopulate the area.  Recently, at one of the scientific meetings, someone demonstrated the use of fractionated lasers with the eyelash growing medication Latisse.  One of the side effects of Latisse is that it can color the skin.  This is not a big deal on the eyelid margin because most women use mascara so the effect is welcome.  The physician who presented the study demonstrated the improvement of hypopigmented scars with this combination.  You may want to talk to a local laser expert about this approach.

Good luck.
