How to Remove Bumpy Collagen in the Nose i had a collagen injection for 3 years now, I and i find it ok and beautiful except in my upper nose area. It has a red bumpy appearance. I need to put make up on it to hide the redness and bump everytime i go out.How can I remove that bump? Is it safe to just prick it with surgical needle because the collagen seems like can be easily removed if it is pricked. HELP.

One of the main reasons that collagen injections have fallen by the wayside in favor of hyaluronic acid injections (Juvederm, Restylane) is longevity. On average, collagen lasted for 1-2 months. Therefore, I am suspicious that whatever was injected in your nose 3 years ago was not collagen and may have been silicone. Silicone injections have been associated with chronic granulomatous reactions for a variety of reasons and aren't generally recommended. I would see an experienced Facial Plastic or Plastic Surgeon for your problem.

Can Collagen Help Reduce the Appearance of Keloids? I have one large keloid, and I have already had one surgery. Would collagen help reduce it?

A: Collagen Injections May be Harmful for Keloids

Keloids are an abnormal response to wound healing, leading to enlarged and unusual distributions of collagen. Generally, treatment relies on some form of serial anti-inflammatory injectable (steroids) followed by excision. Statistically, 50% of keloids will recur after surgical removal. Radiation treatment is another option, but generally one I reserve for surgical failures. Collagen injections will likely be counterproductive in trying to eliminate a keloid.

I have had a bump from a 2 year old collagen injection? I have had a bump from collagen for 2 years when will it Disappear? Can i do something to make it Disappear?

A: Collagen Injection

Bovine Collagen typically lasts 1-3 months at most. Given the variety of longer lasting fillers available, it is injected much less frequently than 6-8 years ago. The bump is likely a chronic inflammatory reaction to your injection. As Dr. Placick suggested: find out if it was really collagen or not.
