Chemical Peel on Neck Peeling Twice- Is This Normal? (photo)

I had a chemical peel (Jessner with 25% TCA) on my neck and chest a week ago. It completely peeled but left two very red and sensitive spots on each side of my neck. Even though I have continued to keep the skin moisturized the red spots are crusting again. Is this normal for skin to peel twice in one session?

A: 25% TCA on the Neck and Chest!!

As other posters have noted, a 25% TCA peel on the neck is extremely aggressive and is most definitely not a recommended treatment. The area of irritation is most likely early formation of hypertrophic scar tissue.  I recommend immediate follow up with a Facial Plastic Surgeon and sun avoidance in order to ameliorate the injury that has already occurred.

As an aside, I have seen a number of patients who have obtained TCA over the internet and who have had self applied peels with disastrous consequences.

Is Salicylic Acid Peel 20% or Jessner Peel Safe for African-Americans with Acne?

Is it true that.. Salicylic acid peel 20% or Jessner's peel safe for African American skin? I have a light brown skin complexion with mild acne on my face and back.

A: Which peels are safe in darker skin

Sal acid and Jessner's peels are very safe in darker skin.  The only precaution, is that one may have some additional irritation if one has been using a retin-a before the treatment and with more irritation, one could fathom some postinflammatory hyperpigmentation.  Talk to your physician about whether you should stop any topical meds before the treatement.

What Are the Risks of a Chemical Peel on my Chest and Arms?

I am 27 and have small freckles ALL over my chest and arms. I wear sunblock every day now but I've had them for a long time. My dermatologist recommended a peel but I want to be sure it will definitely look BETTER afterward, not have a chance of looking worse somehow. Also what would happen to the pigment of any moles on my arms if I do this?

A: Chemical peels works for the forearms and chest

Chemical peels can work for the forearm and chest, but it does require some additional care when doing the procedure.  Lower concentrations of acid are usually required in order to protect these areas of the body from adverse outcomes.  They will work on brown spots, but not perfectly.   Your best bet is a Q-switched laser.  These will give the best results and as long as the physician does not point the laser at a mole, there is nothing to worry about.
