What Are the Requirements to Have Insurance Cover Blepharoplasty?

Excess upper eyelid skin runs in both sides of my family, and most have impaired vision by their late 50s. At 37, my upper eyelids hang over my lashes; the excess skin is about 1/2" when pinched with no apparent fat, just skin sagging over lashes. I'm used to it, but there is definitely an upper black line in my vision where the lids are pressing down, and I can "see" my lashes at all times.

What are the usual requirements to gain insurance approval with a good PPO? Is this even possible, or is it always considered cosmetic?

A: Insurance for blepharoplasty

Visual field deficit is necessary for insurances to cover the blepharoplasty. I send my patients to an ophthalmologist to have the visual field testing since they are the most qualified.

Under Eye Puffiness 3 Weeks After Upper Eyelid Surgery, Will It Go Down?

I had upper eyelid surgery 24 days ago and now have a lot puffiness under the eyes that I did not have before the surgery. I still sleep with my head elevated on 3 pillows and have avoided alcohol and salt. What can I do to get rid of it? Thanks.

A: Puffiness in eyes after surgery

Thank you for your question. This is a very odd problem indeed. It would help to see your photos both before surgery and now.

Eyes are Very Different 1 Week After Double Eyelid Surgery, Should I be Worried?

I am 9 days post op double eye surgery. One eye is more swollen and much more small. Surgeon says it's all fine and not to worry. She said I became very stressed during the surgery and they had to switch me to a general and cortorise the beeding in one of my eyes. My eye looks so different from the other and I am really panicking!

A: Fear after eyelid surgery

Thank you for the question. 9 days after eyelid surgery is a very short amount of time. Although most of the edema usually subsides by this time, you will continue to see improvement over the next 6 weeks.
