I have had what has been diagnosed as lichen striata on the back of my left thigh since i was 14. I am now 21 and I am totally frustrated. I used make up to cover it and it works well but I just want to be free again. The skin on the rest of my body is perfect. A dermo had suggested dermabrasion on my leg but my parents thought that it was too risky. What do you think? What other treatments are out there? I am so depressed about this.
Dermabrasion off of the face is definitely of greater risk than on the face, but can be done in skillful hands with careful post abrasion care. Another suggestion might be to try treating a small area with fractional CO2 laser such as the Activ/Deep Fx which might give similar results with faster healing and less risk.
I had laser active x in my face for acne scars and hyperpigmentation and did not do anything. That was 6 months ago. And now I would like to have a dermabrassion done. I think, laser resurfacing for these problems is a waste of money. I payed $2,000
ActivFx is the superficial mode of the fractional UltraPlus CO2 laser. There is a deeper mode called the DeepFX of the same laser which is far better at addressing acne scars, and it is often combined with the ActivFX. In general, Dermabrasion is the most effective treatment for acne scars, but there are fewer and fewer skilled dermabrasion surgeons as healing time from dermabrasion has diminished the number of patients willing to do dermabrasion.
What can be done about the scar under my right eyebrow? It's been there since childhood. My brother hit me in the face and head with a metal toy truck. I ended up with stitches on my scalp and this annoying scar. It's mild yet noticable. Would dermabrasion be possible? If not, what do you suggest?
The skin surrounding the eye is quite thin and delicate making dermabrasion difficult and should only be attempted by a true expert in the technique. I would recommend an alternative with the Activ Fx laser which works quite well, and safely in that area provided the patient is eye shields in place.
