My 2006 saline implant ruptured and deflated very quickly two wks ago. I was told my ins would cover if medically necessary. I have been informed its not medically necessary. But it hurts and looks like it is going to come through my skin. I have also been told of possible bacteria? Do all doctorys say its ok for this deflated object just to stay there and hurt or what an I do to make this issue more pressing to my insurance. I don't expect them to pay all but I think, it is harmful to leave???
Thank you for your question. If you are having pain from the implant, it should be removed. The rupture of the saline implant in an of itself is not a reason for removal but as it stands it is just a foreign body in your breast and is not doing you any good. The procedure for removal is very simple and can be performed through the same incision that was used to place the implant. I agree with you that your insurance should pay for it but insurance companies are very devious and will always find a way not to pay.
After explanting for level 4 capsules and getting a lopipop lift my breasts are misshapen. I have a 'band' under the nipple area which doesn't seem right. I am 11 weeks post op- what is my prognosis? Do I have any hope of small but nicely formed breasts? Will they drop.
Having breast implants in place and then having them removed certainly causes changes to the breast architecture. The deformity you are describing and have demonstrated with your photos is not entirely surprising, however it will likely significantly improve over the next six months (which you have likely been told by the operating surgeon). There may be additional procedures that will be necessary in the future to improve the overall look of your breasts, if you are not considering placing implants back in the breasts.
other options may include:
- breast fat grafting (adding fat that is harvested from other body areas to improve the overall shape /contour
- scar revision - removing excess skin to further improve the breast shape / appearance
I've had breast explantation two weeks ago. My ps left the capsules in saying they will be absorbed into body without any problems. At the moment I am having some problems with my chest muscles feeling weak. I am hoping the capsules being reabsorbed and the area enclosing, and muscles reattaching will improve my problem. Has there been any documentation to how long capsules took to be absorbed?
If I am performing an operation to permanently remove breast implants, I will generally remove the majority, if not all of the capsular tissue. This allows for more rapid and complete healing of the chest tissues, in addition to limiting the possibiltiy of a seroma forming (postoperative fluid collection that may require aspiration or drainage). If your implants were under the muscle, I would repair the muscle by re-attaching it to the chest wall if possible to facilitate normal muscle function. Every case, of course, is different, and these concerns are best discussed with your operating surgeon since they know your particular case best.
good luck
Dr. Simon
