I'm 42 and about to undergo laser resurfacing of my lower eyelids to improve some crepiness of the skin. My surgeon uses the eCO2 laser, which brings me to my question. I've read a few posts from patients expressing concern that this particular laser caused damage to their Malar Bags.Is this a complication that is more likely with a full face resurfacing procedure,or is it a complication to be concerned about at all? Looking for a clarification on the topic.
Regardless of the type of laser, you will likely have some post treatment swelling in the malar area. This may be called a malar bag as a result of the swelliing. If you already have malar bags, the laser treatment may take longer to resolve. The laser treatment alone is not an effective treatment for the malar bags.
I am 64 years old. I have just had Mixto resurfacing done....I am not expecting miracles, but I was quite disappointed as I do not realize any significant improvement. I am told that within 3 months maybe things will improve...but will they? At my age? The collagen that is supposed to kick in....will it really kick in at my age?
Dear Lyn
Sorry about your experience where you do not realize any significant imporovement after your fractional laser resurfacing.
Having performed laser resurfacing for 20 years in hundreds of patients I can tell you than I see significant improvement in the skin of my patients who are greater than 60 years of age even a few weeks after treatment. The improvement continues over the next 6 months.
Sadly, if you have not seen improvement at this point you might conclude that the treatment you received was too conservative. You may wish to share this with your doctor in hopes that additional more aggressive treatment will help. It is also understandable if you wanted another opinion.
Best Wishes
machines "specialized" for one treatment perform that treatment perfectly. What is the best laser for “eyelids wrinkles”? Please I ask your opinion for “wrinkles..” on lasers that require one session AND your opinion on lasers that require more sessions to obtain the same results… What is the best laser specific for skin resurfacing? Please,I’m again asking about lasers that require one session AND on gentler lasers that require more sessions to obtain the same results. Thanks a lot
The carbon dioxide laser is still the Gold Standard for the treatment of facial Wrinkles. Treatments vary according to whether the beam is "fractioned" into small pulses spread apart or scanned across the surface. When broken up into small dots you get less result in return for less time for healting. When scanned across your skin, you get more result and more time for healting. The two options are available to suit the needs of the individual patient. A busy business person may prefer faster healing while a retired person may want more of a result.
