Hi, I'm 31 years old and feel that my upper eyelids are already sagging, making me look tired and old... It runs in my family - my mother has a similar problem, developed much further. Am I too young for eyelid surgery? If its genetic, will correcting it early be good - or should I too it as late in my life as possible? Many thanks!
There is no correct age for an upper eyelid blepharoplasty. In the surgery, the skin along with some muscle and rarely fat are removed. Removal of the excess skin restores a youthful curvature to the upper eyelid. There are some people who may never need upper eyelid surgery, while there are people in there 20s and 30s that can benefit from it.
I am a 34 year old male with eye bags. I have gotten two opinions on how to treat them. Now I am confused. Is one procedure safer than the other? How long do the results last?
There are 2 main approaches for blepharoplasty that you describe, the transcutaneous approach (incision on the lower eyelid skin) and the transconjunctival approach (incision inside the eyelid). Both procedures are safe in the hands of a board certified facial plastic surgeon, plastic surgeon, or oculoplastic surgeon that has experience with blepharoplasty.
Philosophically you will find different opinions on what different doctors prefer to perform. I perform both methods and always aim to achieve a natural look, without altering the shape of the eyelid unless absolutely necessary. Based on your age and the photos, I would most likely perform a transconjunctival approach on your eyes. 1) There is no scarring externally with this approach and no stitches to remove 2) I feel I can achieve better results with this on you since there is much less of a risk for changing the position of the lower eyelid with this technique.
Getting a few opinions from surgeons with experience in blepharoplasty surgery is always a good idea. Be sure to see before and after photos and feel comfortable with the surgeon you choose.
I had lower Blepharoplasty done 2 weeks ago. Swelling still remains, which is normal. What I noticed recently is the exessive skin wrinkling on the lower lidsas the swelling goes down. What should I do to eliminate wrinkling? Could it become permanent?
Wrinkles under the eyelid are not necessarily treated by a lower eyelid blepharoplasty. The fine lines and wrinkles are often treated with a skin resurfacing procedure such as a chemical peel or a CO2 laser peel (regular or fractional). The lower eyelid blepharoplasty is aimed to treat bags under the eyed that result from fat pads that protrude with age. These should be better after blepharoplasty surgery.
