1 Month Post Sliding Genioplasty: Is This Swelling or Permanent?

I had this procedure done 1 month ago and I am very disappointed with the results. My chin now looks way too prominent(it actually sticks out of my face literally!!) I have attached a pic (please see)

A: Swelling after a genioplasty

It is not uncommon to have some swelling from 2 to 3 months after a genioplasty procedure depending upon the amount of work that was done. That being said, the frontal view is not sufficient to determine whether or not it is swelling or actually you are too augmented. I would recommend you discuss your concerns with your surgeon.

How to Correct a Receding Chin of a 14-year-old?

I'm 14 and I really, really, really hate my receding chin. I've already had my bite fixed, with help from an orthodontist. I'm still young but I don't think it will come out anymore that it has already. Plus, I have a square-shaped face, and it looks funny. I've considered chin augmentation but it costs a lot. If that's the only option, I will. What should I do?

A: Weak chin in a 14 year old.

Braces to correct your bite may have only fixed a symptom.

Retrognathia often requires what is called a "sliding genioplasty" to lengthen the entire jaw, not just the chin.

Often this will require a new period of braces which initially will make your bite worse, but it is in preparation to move your jaw forward, correcting your chin in the process.

Chin Reduction

I have what I guess is an oblong face. Is there any form of tissue or bone reduction that would make my face more oval? I think it is that my chin is vertically too long, it does not protrude horizontally at all, I just want to make my face less long, what are my options? All of the chin reduction procedures seem really drastic for what I am trying to achieve, and I wouldn't want to over do it. Thanks

A: Chin surgery

You might want to see a facial plastic surgeon and inquire about the use of anatomical chin implants to make your face appear more oval in nature. Sometimes rounding out the pre-jowl areas will help with this problem. I hope this information helps.
