I used a natural mole remover called Dermatend on my leg and was left with flat, red scars.does Mederma help with this type of scar and will mederma help turn my scars back to normal skin tone? Also will it work on 1 year old scars?
There is no clinical evidence that proves that Mederma is more effective than placebo in a suture line that has been meticulously closed without tension. Scars take a full year to mature because humans are genetically programmed to heal in phases, while collagen remodeling becomes less vigorous. Topical therapies (silicone) can be of some benefit in reducing redness in keloids and hypertrophic scars. My advice is to save your money and keep the incision line out of the sun.
I have a mole on my cheek that is the diameter of a pencil eraser and is raised 4mm or so. I've had it checked, and have no troubles with it, but is it getting larger with age, and cosmetically, I do not like it. I'm apprehensive to have it removed, but want to. Are there concerns other than scarring? How do I go about finding a doctor qualified to remove it?
An important point to consider in mole removal is that you will be trading a mole for a scar. Experienced Facial Plastic Surgeons, Plastic Surgeons, and Dermatologists will place an elliptical incision parallel to the lines of motion of the face (relaxed skin tension lines), perform a tension free closure with fine nonreactive suture, and ask that you follow necessary precautions to ensure better wound healing. I have not been impressed with shaving of moles because elements of the lesion often remain in the deeper layer of skin (dermis), allowing for the mole to grow back.
I have a VERY raised mole on my neck the size of a pencil eraser, that has been there ever since I can remember. It has never changed size, color, shape. The mole is dark brown in color but has a flat "neck" much like a skin tag - it is as tall as it is in diameter. I did some research and decided to remove it at home by tying it off with dental floss, similar in technique to a livestock castration. I am not concerned about scarring. Are there serious risks to this that I should be aware of?
i would definitely recommend a physician to look at it to determine if you need a biospy. it can be done simply and quickly with minimal scarring GL
