For those who have lost over 150 pounds, should an overall body contouring plan be considered to just a body lift? Are there certain procedures that are more effective and more affordable than a body lift after massive weight loss?
Question about a patient losing > 150lbs and the procedures that may be considered:
After weight loss of this amount, there are generally several procedures that may be considered:
- Lower body lift - circumferential excision of excess skin / fat around the waist line - which affects the abdomen, buttocks, lateral thighs, and flanks
- Breasts - typically involves a breast lift combined with implants
- Arms - arm lift or brachioplasty performed with or without use of liposuction
- Thighs - thigh lift - several techniques - I prefer to limit the incision to the groin crease extending posteriorly to the buttock crease - may also be combined with liposuction
these procedures are typically performed in a staged fashion, I will often recommend starting with the body lift
the arms and breasts can be successfully combined in one operation as well
There are some people that say you can't with a cold and others say if you have your period the doctor will not operate.I am not so sure if these are true or false.
Cosmetic surgery and its risks are ideal for patients in excellent health. Though a cold may not affect your results or recovery, it is possible that it will. I would not recommend it.
How long does the "lift" from body lift surgery last? I am 35, and I want to get a body lift, but I may wait if the results won't last well into my 40s or 50s.
The results from a lower body lift will last a lifetime. As long as you maintain your weight within 10-15 pounds of the weight you were at the time of surgery you should enjoy the results for the rest of your life. However, if you gain and lose a lot of weight your body can change and you may find yourself with more excess or loose skin. Most patients are able to maintain their weight adequately to keep the results of surgery.
You can follow the attached link to see some before and after results from lower body lifts.
I hope this info helps...
