Want Veneers on Both Lateral Teeth, Do I Need Additional Internal Bleaching First? (photo)

Both lateral teeth grew in with white spots and now as an adult are much more stained than the other teeth. One of the lateral teeth has had a root canal and 3 or 4 sessions of internal bleaching, due to a cyst that grew right next to the root of that tooth. I'm currently whitening my teeth at home but am wondering if I need more internal bleaching of the lateral tooth, shown in the picture, before having Veneers put on?

A: Whitening teeth before porcelain veneers

You have beautiful shape of the teeth and aesthetics, especially color and structure can be significantly improved with porcelain veneers. The internal bleaching most likely won`t be beneficial at this point. You can get your porcelain veneers without additional procedures.

Two Recently Crowned Teeth Need Root Canals?

I recently got two crown lengthing/crowns. I waited a month between the lengthening and crown. It's two weeks later and I'm still throbbing in pain. It's hyper sensitive to cold. Now he says I need a root canal, without even looking in my mouth. I'm suspicious that two teeth suddenly need canals and suspect the process. These new crowns are all ceramic (not metal on ceramic) and I read the cement used might be the issue. I'm leaning towards getting a second opinion.

A: Pain after two recently cemented crowns

Often the teeth can experience the increased sensitivity after cementation of any crown. It can be caused by previous preparation of the tooth, leakage under the temporary crown, possible infection. But in your case it sounds more like this also can be triggered by crown lengthening as well. The zone apical to the cemento-enamel junction can be extremely sensitive and react to cold. You should definitely ask for 2nd opinion and clear the actual reasons for the throbbing pain.

Which do you think should come first

I wish to have my smile "adjusted". I never liked the look of my teeth but couldn't avoid to make an improvement in my earlier years. Now in my 40's I can. I have an overbite, teeth are dull looking, I have fillings in the front teeth and 1 crown (the color matches the rest of my off-white teeth). I do believe that I have used tetracycline in my early years, so my teeth are not yellowed, more grey. In terms of procedures to correct all of the above, what should I do and in what in which order?

A: Smile improvement and anterior smile aesthetics

In the situation when the patient is not happy about the way his smile looks, it is important to define all the problems in the mouth and prepare the comprehensive treatment plan. The color and shape of the teeth can be improved with whitening and porcelain veneers. But the smile and teeth also have posterior sides and the condition of the bite is extremely important. You should consult with experienced restorative dentist to discus the options of the treatment to improve your smile.
