My Face is Swollen After Deep Plane Facelift, When Will This And Bruising Subside? Worried About Returning To Work.

It's been 5 days since my facelift. My face is swollen and the chin area is swollen. And there is bruising. Brusing can be covered with makeup but not swelling. My plastic surgeon I could probably return to work in two weeks or maybe even sooner. He said that while I would be ready for "prime time" no one would really notice. I'm panicked because I'm reading the answers that my face will be swollen and bruised. I'll have to quit my job. I can't go back to work like this. Help!

A: Facelift swelling is normal for up to 12 weeks

Most of my patients experience bruising and swelling for at least 4-8 weeks that is noticeable enough that they feel the need to camouflage and cover up. Between 8-12 weeks the signs are less noticeable, but some swelling still remains. To lesson your swelling AVOID any strenuous activity and bending over...and be patient, it will resolve soon enough.

Best of Luck, Dr. Clevens

Swelling 2 Weeks and 2 Days After Facelift, When Can I Expect this to go Down?

It has been 2 weeks and 2 days after my facelift. Only my neck has a little bruising. The swelling in face has gone down a lot but there still some. My neck is more swollen and a bit lumpy. When can I expect my neck to be more normal? I hate turtleneck sweaters and I have to go back to work in a few days and I don't want to tell anyone. I want the "refreshed" and not the "surgical" look. Thanks.

Am I a Candidate for a Facelift at 32? (photo)

Hi, I'm 32 year old male, constantly dealing with disbelieving looks when I'm asked my age. I think I need a facelift. I know I'm really young for this, but if I look this bad now and a facelift can help, then why wait? I'd like to enjoy some more my (relative) youth... I've attached a picture, the areas I think I need are a facelift for my jowls, fillers or a submalar implant for my hollow cheeks, and simple fillers for my nasolabial folds. Am I a candidate for a facelift? Thanks

A: Try Volumizing Treatments First

Although you may be a candidate for a facelift, it is difficult to accurately assess your concerns without meeting you in person first.  Generally I encourage my younger patients who are experiencing volume loss to have Sculptra treatments to restore a more youthful and full look to the face.  This combined with a laser treatment that will smooth skin and even out your skin tone might possibly give you the improvement that you desire.

Best of luck,

Dr. Clevens
