Charging for Botox or Restylane by the Syringe. Is That Norman Pratice?

Is it normal practice to charge for Botox and restylane by te syringe. What is it does not take a full syringe?

A: making lemonade ;)

Botox and Dysport come to us as physicians as powder. We all HAVE to dilute it to make a solution and since some injectors dilute with 3 syringes of liquid while some dilute with 2 syringes, you cant go by syringe for pricing.

You can think of it as making lemonade from a powder mix, if one doctor puts 1 cup of water in the mix and the other puts 10 cups in his mix, there is obviously much less lemonade mix per cup in the 10 cup recipe (1/10th) compared to one cup  from the doctor who only used one cup of water which would contain all the mix! Therefore most doctors charge per area or units. The most fair way is by units since you would be paying for exactly what you are getting. However, since it is hard to tell how many units you will need till you are seen, my office offers per area pricing as a max that you will never pay more for and then if we use less units than average, we will charge you less that day.

Fillers on the otherhand are usually not diluted therefore it is fair and normal practice to charge per syringe with some discount for larger numbers of syringes.

How to Alleviate Swelling on Lips After Restylane?

I had Restylane injected in my lips yesterday I have lots of swelling i was told the majority of this would reduce over night but it hasn't. What can I do? I'm becoming very anxious.

A: Swelling is very normal

Swelling is a normal response to Restylane injection and can last from 2-5 days depending on the amount of material placed, the technique used and the patient's own response. Intermittent ice to the lips will help a bit with the swelling but it's truly TIME that is the only real treatment. Be patient, I'm sure it will look great when the swelling subsides.
