I had a chemical peel (Jessner with 25% TCA) on my neck and chest a week ago. It completely peeled but left two very red and sensitive spots on each side of my neck. Even though I have continued to keep the skin moisturized the red spots are crusting again. Is this normal for skin to peel twice in one session?
As other posters have noted, a 25% TCA peel on the neck is extremely aggressive and is most definitely not a recommended treatment. The area of irritation is most likely early formation of hypertrophic scar tissue. I recommend immediate follow up with a Facial Plastic Surgeon and sun avoidance in order to ameliorate the injury that has already occurred.
As an aside, I have seen a number of patients who have obtained TCA over the internet and who have had self applied peels with disastrous consequences.
My background is Swedish and Portuguese, I'm very fair, but don't sunburn I've been fighting acne since I was 18 and am now 23, I used to have such beautiful skin and would not have to wear make-up, this has affected my confidence immensely.
I eat healthy, exercise and all that jazz, but wear make-up to cover the acne which doesn't help. Please doctors what are your suggestions to a SAFE and reliable treatment? Not concerned about cost or traveling distance within bay area. Thank you for reading.
Based on the photos, I think it is important to differentiate between active acne and acne scarring. It appears that your issue is more the former than the latter. I would definitely consult with a well respected Dermatologist in your area for a treatment regime that works best for you. There are many different options from topical antibiotics, Retin-A and other topicals to IPL and blue light based therapies. The diversity of treatments available speaks to the difficulty frequently encountered in treating acne. When treating acne scarring, I generally recommend a treatment plan involving the fractionated CO2 laser or Dermabrasion over chemical peels.
Is a Tsa Peel the Same As a Chemical Peel? What is a Phenol Peel? Also, Which is Better? What is the down time for a peel?
A Phenol peel is, by definition, a "deep" chemical peel, A TCA peel can be administered as either a mild, medium, or deep chemical peel according to the concentration. Phenol peels have a greater incidence of hypopigmentation, and have a certain degree of cardiac risk. Since the refinement of the ultra-pulse CO2, erbium, and later the fractionated CO2 lasers, phenol peels have been used with lesser frequency for skin resurfacing.
