What is Smart Lipo Laser?

Can someone explain what is Smart Lipo? how is smartlipo different from normal liposuction surgery?

A: Is SmartLipo smart? the truth behind the hype

Smartlipo is simply a fine canula with a laser on the end that is purported to melt away fat and make liposuction more comfortable and decrease recovery.  The reality is that liposuction with a laser is about as useful as the sharks with lasers mounted to their heads in the Autin Powers movie.  It is largely marketing.  The device haas been well studied and simply does not work as well as traditional liposuction which is the reason you will find very few true plastic surgeons using this machine. This is the reason that 'smart liposuction is dangerous!  The company markets to all kinds of doctors that they can take a course over the weekend, learn the technique and enhance revenue in their practice.  It is simply not safe for non plastic surgeons to perform liposuction.  Results can be anywhere from unnoticeable change to horrific.

For in office liposuction procedures I use a waterjet liposuction machine manufactured by the company humanmed.  I like this device because there is a continuos administration of the tumsecent solution which makes it painless and bleeding free.  The waterjet also helps break up the fat so there is less force applied and the patients are more comfortable.

The most impor4tant part of your procedure is not the device but rather the hand holding the device!

I hope this helps!

I Want to Get Smartlipo Triplex but Prefer General Anesthetic Instead of Local, Can I?

I have high blood pressure when I get nervous so im going to get really nervous with local anesthetic, can I tell the dr. to perform the smartlipo triplex on my tummy and double chin with general anesthetic instead, so I can be fully asleep and not feel any stabbing pains? Because I heard you even feel pain when theyre injecting you the local on all areas.

A: Smart Laser Liposuction Anesthesia Choices

There are always different anesthesia options and it depends on your needs and the surgeon's comfort.  If you would like the procedure performed under general anesthesia then you should tell your Plastic Surgeon.  As long as you are medically cleared, your surgeon should be able to offer this choice.  You should be prepared to pay an additional fee for the anesthesiologist.

Is Smart Lipo Under the Chin and Neck Painful?

I am having smart lipo on my chin and neck area in a couple of weeks. I need real honesty here. Is the procedure going to be painful under local anesthesia? Can you feel what's going on? And now I'm reading about not being able to smile afterwards and prolonged swelling. Should I be concerned??

A: Laser Liposucion under local anesthesia

The procedure should really be very tolerable but is dependent on the surgeon's technique.  Ideally you have some light oral sedation in the form of valium, etc.  The only discomfort you should feel is the initial placement of local anesthetic.  With excellent technique, even the anesthetic injection should be just about painless and really of no concern.  Since you are awake for the procedure you will feel pushing, pulling, and pressure but should not experience pain as long as the treated area has been completely numbed.  You may have difficulty with smiling right after the procedure but this only lasts for a couple hours until the numbing medication has worn off.  Longer episodes of difficulty moving the mouth may be due to nerve injury which is a very low risk with this surgery and less so with proper technique.  There will be swelling and everybody is different.  It's usually mostly resolved in a week or so.  Proper compression of the treated area can help speed it along.
