I am having IPL on my upper lip, I have had 8 seeions so far with good results. One day after my last seesion I noticed slight darkening of my upper lip, will this fade? I'm really worried. Normally I have asian skin (light) and dark hair.Thank you.
8 sessions sounds like a lot of treatment on the upper lip. It implies that you have had a substantial amount of pigment before starting down the laser path---you might have a condition called melasma, common in Asian women. Unfortunately, it is somewhat difficult to clear completely. See a dermatologist who can prescribe a bleaching medication called hydroquinone----you should start with the minimum concentration of 4%, and maybe increase to 6% or even 8% in combination with tretinoin cream, which helps the bleaching medicine reach deeper into the skin. Try this for a few months and hold off on the IPL at this time....and of course, NO SUN!
I had an IPL Photofacial done yesterday. Immediately after procedure, my face was very red and felt on fire. After 1.5 hours, redness went down along with the pain but I am left with unbelievable dark spots covering both cheeks and some of my forehead. I do not have any "coffee grinds" that I keep reading about. My face just looks horrifying with these brown spots everywhere. Is this normal? When do the coffee grinds typically show up? Help! I'm scared that I should not have done this!
IPL is an excellent laser treatment for brown spots---in my office, I often see the brown spots on the face start to darken just a few minutes after the laser passes over them. And they can continue to darken for the next week. Since new skin cells rise from the bottom of the skin to the top in 7 to 10 days on the face, these dark spots peel away in the same time: 7 to 10 days. If you feel your reaction is more extreme, call your doctor right away to get additional answers to your questions. In any case, follow your doctor's instructions completely (NO SUN!), and if you're not clearing by next week, call the office and ask to be checked.
Today I had my first IPL treatment to treat mild acne(to kill bacteria), I noticed there are a few freckles rise to the surface. Will they fade away? Will hydroquinone helps?
Rather they are simply highlighted from the procedure, and likely will peel off within a week or two. Not to worry!
