Doctor Says OK to Have Fraxel While on 10 Mg Accutane - is He Right?

Hi! Currenly on 10mg of accutance p/day. My local dermatologist said its perfectly fine to do a course of 3 fraxel treatments while on accutance to treat my large pores / acne scars. Is he right? It seems everywhere says to avoid fraxel untill at least a year after accutane. Maybe due to my low dosage its okay? What are possible risks? Thanks in advance :)

A: Accutane and Fraxel

I do not recommend any laser including Fraxel until at least 6 months to 1 year after completion of accutane therapy. The risks outweigh the benefits of using this.

What is Fraxel Laser Resurfacing?

I'm interested in learning more about fraxel laser resurfacing. what is fraxel best for treating?

A: Fraxel laser resurfacing

Fraxel is one of the best for "fractional resurfacing". To understand what fractional resurfacing means, imagine an eraser that wipes away the skin- this would be the old CO2 and erbium lasers. The newer fractional ones remove "fractions" of skin leaving behind islands of normal skin that can repair the adjacent areas.

Fractional is great for improving the texture and fine lines of the skin. In addition, it is great for some types of scars such as certain acne and burn scars.

One area of increasing interest is the use of these lasers for stretch marks. Although these are still tough to treat, Fraxel has been used to help their appearance.

This is one of the most popular lasers in the practice because there is minimal downtime.

How Do I Find the Best Fraxel Doctor?

seeking a great fraxel laser doctor. what should i look for?

A: Finding a great Fraxel Doctor

Finding a great Fraxel doctor means finding a great doctor.

By that, I mean that a great Fraxel doctor needs to understand the skin, lasers and how they interact. A great doctor will try to listent to what the patients want and help them decide if the Fraxel can accomplish their goals.

The Fraxel laser is a great device but the outcomes depend on the energy settings used and this requires the physician to decide how thick the person's skin is, what their pigment can tolerate and what their level of discomfort will be.

The post treatment care is as important as the procedure (or any procedure). This requires a physician that can figure out what happens if there is a problem (rare but stuff happens).

I use several lasers and Fraxel is one of them. I love using the lasers because they enable me to fix things that I otherwise could not. When choosing a physician for a laser treatment, make sure that he or she has experience and has several devices (so they are not trying to do everything with the only laser they own or that they are renting them which means they wont have enough experience to get good).
