What Should I Use when I Massage Upper Eyelid Scars Scars?

Hi, I had upper eyelid surgery 3 weeks ago. My doctor told me to massage the scars twice a day with Tobradex ointment or vitamin E as he said that I had some irregularity in the stitches on one eyelid that should eventually flatten out. Which is the best stuff to massage the scars with? Can I use kelo-cote to massage the scars instead of vitamin E or Tobradex? Thanks.

A: massage techniques

I usually ask my patients to use an antibiotic cream on their incisions for the first 2 weeks of surgery.  After that, I ask them to massage the incisions firmy with clean fingers in small, circle-like motions.  I ask them to especially focus on the inner corners.  The ointment isn't really necessary at this point, but the massage helps break up deeper scar tissue that may try and form.  I don't recommend the Vitamin E oils near the eyes.

Good luck!

After Upper Eyelid Surgery, How Long Before I Can Get Back in a Public Swimming Pool?

I do water Aerobics regularly and will have my surgery in a few days.

A: swimming after eyelid surgery

I tell my patients two weeks as well.  For one, I worry about risk of infection, and for two, I also don't allow my patients to exercise for about 2 weeks to avoid tension on the wound and prominent scarring or incision lines.

I feel Like too Much Skin Was Removed During Eyelid Surgery, am I Over Analyzing? (photo)

Something does not feel right. The surgeon is experienced and told me that I need to give it more time. I'm hoping that I'm just over analyzing. I was told that minimal fat and skin was removed.

A: skin removal

What kind of problems are you having when you say "something does not feel right"?   How long ago was your surgery?  It looks like you still have some swelling.  Occasionally patients note numbness that can take several months to go away, and maybe that is contributing to your sensations??   Is it the appearance that you don't like?  It would help to see some before photos.  Many times we assess that too much skin was removed if patients have trouble closing their eyes completely, and based on your photos, I don't see that, however a full exam would be necessary to say that for sure.

Good luck
