Is It Protocol To Wait 3-6 Months After Weightloss to Have Surgery?

I am a 22 year old with no children and have lost about 70lbs in the past year & am 22lbs away from my goal.I'm planning to have surgery Jan.2012 to have a tummy tuck without MR and a breast lift.I’ve read is it important to wait 3-6 months for my weight stabilize before having surgery, why?I’ve seen the same saggy skin for a good amount of time and do not understand the point of waiting an add'l 3-6 months. Also,is it advisable to combine an armlift with the tummy tuck & breast lift?

A: IIt is very important to eliminate as many variables as possible before proceeding with body contour surgery,

and waiting for your body to establish a steady state in terms of weight loss is important for achieving the best possible result.  Look at the changes you've seen over the course of your 70 lb weight loss (congratulations on your achievement) and you can understand why it is important to weight for your body to accomodate to the weight change.  SUrgery will futrther refine your look, but it should be done after you have reached a steady weight.  A reasonable period of time to wait would be six months, and I would strongly recommend that you follow your surgeon's advice and not rush into surgery before your situation has been optimized.

How Do Surgeons Address The Upper Pubic Area With A Tummy Tuck

I see alot of pictures online were women have tummy tucks after weight loss but they are left with all the fat/lose skin that bulges above and around the vagina, making it look alot like part of a mans privates. To change that, Is there a different surgery? or is it something that is supposed to be included in the TT? Thanks.

A: In the modern Abdominoplasty, it has become increasingly important to address the issue

of excess tissue in the mons area.  Particularly in our patients following large weight loss, excess skin below the abdominal incision, in the area of the mons, is a problem that has to be corrected to improve the results of the surgery.  We have developed a technique of sculpting excess fat away under direct vision, followed by elevating a flap of skin and removing the excess before closing the Abdominoplasty incision.  Patients need to be awarw that there will be swelling in the mons area for about two weeks after surgery, but the results are well worth the additional healing time.  Make sure to discuss this with your surgeon before the Abdominoplasty, or you will likely be discussing the problem with him or her after the surgery...

Does a Tummy Tuck Remove Any Fat?

Getting full TT with muscle repair Jan 2012. Looking at before and after photos many people have some lipo or body sculpting done. Wondering if full TT will remove ANY fat in the lower abs. Just "in general." I'am 5'4", 128lbs,4 children, one 10lbs then another 15 months later I weighed 220 at the birth! I have good muscle tone under the stretched skin. Stretch marks 2-3" above BB, I know they will remain. Normally will would TT insision go far enough to lift outer thigh AT ALL? hopping a little.

A: Tummy tuck or abdominoplasty removes excess abdominal skin and fat, tightens the muscles

of the abdominal wall, and can remove scars and stretch marks below the level of the belly button.  The scar is placed low to be hidden in the "bikini" line, and the skin up to the level of the umbilicus, or belly button is removed.  The abdominal muscles are exposed up to the upper abdoman and then plicated or sewn across the midline for tightening and to help hold the abdominal contents in place.  Sometimes we add liposuction of the hips to the procedure to help bring in the waistline. Generally speaking, the incision does not go far out enough to lift the lateral thighs, although for the appropriate patient, we can extend the incision around to the back to lift the lateral thighs and buttocks (the so called belt lipectomy or belt lift).  It sounds like you are a good candidate for this surgery, and we wish you luck...
