Had a breast reduction 5 years ago. Believe my true cup size was a G cup, and asked to go down to a C cup. Well I ended up with a D cup size and after being pregnant, my cup size is larger. I have quite a bit of scar tissue below the breast (around the U shape incision), My question is, would a second breast reduction make the scar tissue worse? Also would a second surgery effect my nipple sensation? Thank you in advance for taking time to read/reply to my questions.
A repeat or secondary breast reduction can likely use the same scars as the previous reduction. Scar tissue that is firm can most likely be removed at the time of your surgery. Without examing you, it is hard to know what might have caused the scar tissue to become firm, but most likely, this should be avoidable or significantly less pronounced after your next reduction. In addition, breast asymmetry can be addressed at the time of surgery. I would suggest that prior to your next surgery, you discuss having a mammogram with your doctor.
Best of luck.
I am 5'4" and 210lbs. I know that I have to lose weight before a reduction so I won't bring it up until I do. My breasts are at a 38G. My neck and back CONSTANTLY hurt and I have scars from my bras. I've always had a larger chest but I've not always been this overweight and I guess my fear is if I lose too much weight will I not be able to get a reduction? Will my breast already be small to the point where I can't get one done. My insurance will have to pay for it because I cannot afford it.
Loosing weight before you undergo breast reduction would be beneficial in a number of regards. Being closer to your "ideal body weight" will make surgery safer. It is unlikely that you would loose so much weight in your breasts that your symptoms resolve without a breast reduction.
Good luck with your weight loss efforts. If you are struggling with weight loss, consider asking your doctor for a referral to a nutritionist.
does a breast reduction or lift increse a chance for breast cancer? there is no family history of cancer so far and i am in general healthy.
There is no know increase in breast cancer risk following breast reduction. In fact, some literature actually supports the concept that breast cancer risk might be very slightly reduced after breast reduction--this is simply because there is less breast tissue after surgery that could possibly develop cancer. Keep in mind, however, that following breast reduction surgery, the appearance of your breast tissue on mammograms could be altered; this may increase your chances (slightly) of needing a breast biopsy at some point in your life, but cancer risk is not increased.
