I am 19 days post-abdominoplasty, which I did to improve my appearance after a 95 lb weight loss. If it's relevant, I also had a small umbilical hernia repair during the surgery. The swelling in the area I'm pointing to in the pictures, either lower abdomen or upper pubic region, is still quite significant to me. I'm wondering if this is normal, is this actually just swelling, or is this as "flat" as I should expect to get. Thank you for your opinions!
It appears that you still have some swelling. I tell my patients that they may be swollen for several months after surgery. You should continue to wear a compression garment or even Spanks to help reduce the swelling. It is also a good idea to have your surgeon take a look at things on your next visit to make sure everything is healing well.
8 months ago, I had an oozing wound on my tummy tuck scar, just above the mons area. My plastic surgeon went in to look for a leftover stitch but could not locate one. He did this twice. One one occasion, he went pretty deep with the needle and it hurt very bad down in the pubic area! He never did find a stitch, but it came out on its own. The area where he explored is still sensitive. Now, the mons area on that side is swollen and feels like pinching. Could it be another stitch?
As suggested by the other panelists, there could be more sutures that are trying to work their way out and so it would be helpful for you to see a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in your area to evaluate.
I hope that helps!
Over five years after surgery I still cannot touch my wife's belly without causing her great discomfort.
It is not common to have pain this far after a tummy tuck procedure. As such, I would see the original plastic surgeon who performed the surgery and ask for his/her opinion. One possibility is nerve entrapment which may be causing this.
There are also a number of other issues which could be potentially causing pain and so it is important that this be looked at.
I hope that helps!
