Will Botox Take Care of Glabellar Lines with Thin Skin?

I am only 29 and have noticeable glabellar lines that are present even when I don't furrow my brow. I also have thin skin. I am headed for a botox consultation in a couple weeks, but am wondering - will botox take care of these lines? They're not extremely deep, but more noticeable than most before/after photos I've seen of others with "problems" in this area. I'm just wondering what to expect.

A: Botox is only part of the solution.

Hello,

Botox is used to reduce the appearance of dynamic or motion-induced wrinkling.  With time, skin overlying areas of facial motion like the forehead, glabella, crow's foot, and mouth areas shows fixed wrinkles.  This is due to multiple factors including collagen loss and sun damage.  In my practice botox is used in combination with resurfacing procedures such as chemical peels and laser to address both the mobile and fixed components of skin lines.  Additionally if volume loss is making the wrinkles worse, injectible filler can be used to counteract this.  Here in Denver, we have a young population, but with our sun exposure and low humidity, we see skin aging earlier than other parts of the country.  29 is not too young to be proactive!

Can I Have my Eyebrow Rasied by Botox? (photo)

I am a caucasian male, age 47 with fair skin. I would like to have the eyebrow raised by Botox, (see photo) is this possible, ?, where would the injection be, would it give me a surprised look (I don't want that outcome). How many units ?. And how much of a lift could I realistically achieve ?

A: Yes you can get a minor eyebrow lift.

Botox is an option for lifting the outside of the brow.  Small amounts of botox (2-4 units) can be used to weaken a muscle that depresses the lateral eyebrow causing it to lift a little in response.  Positioning of the injection will help avoid a surprised look.  The amount of raise is variable from patient to patient and typically only a few millimeters.

Is It Normal for the Forehead to Bulge Slightly After Botox Treatment, or is This Residual Swelling? (Photos)

Had 1st injections Wed.: 20 units in Glabulla, 12 in forehead. Thurs. morning had throbbing pain + swollen to the point of disfigurin. It's now Sat.: pain mostly gone, forehead evened out, but clearly a mild bulging--does not look/feel natural (outline of treated muscles is visible). Is this residual swell, or is Botox supposed to add 'fullness' to treated muscles? I dislike this look, & want forehead flat. I still have a lot of movement, mostly lateral brows, where there is no bulging at all.

A: It can happen.

Hello,

Depending on the dilution of botox used, one can have residual swelling for a short time.  Your forehead looks fairly still in your photos except for the lateral brow where no botox was placed.  Several possible explanations for your experience could be: mild bleeding with swelling, residual swelling that will resolve, relaxation of the muscles into a more expanded position making forehead look fuller, etc.  I would just give it time to see what happens.  After 7-10 days you should have better idea of your look and can adjust the lateral brows if needed.

Good luck,
