I understand and have heard that silicone, goretex and all other synthetic implants for rhinoplasty will eventually have to be replaced (or revised) after years of wear and tear. From this forum I have heard many surgeons recommending that the best material used for rhinoplasty is our own autologous tissue such as rib cartilage or septal cartilage. I would like to know if autologous tissue used for rhinoplasty will eventually require replacement or revision too?
A: Do Rib Cartilage Grafts Need To Be Replaced? If the rib graft is properly shaped and placed and has healed in its desired position it will not need to be replaced. I have revised some noses where rib cartilage has been used and have usually found the cartilage to be in excellent shape years after the original operation. I operated on a lady who had had a rib cartilage used for dorsal augmentation 51 years prior to my operation and the cartilage graft was intact!

Will I Grow into my Nose? Nose is Bigger then All my Features (photo)
My family has pretty big noses, but the difference is for them, it works with there facial features. I'm 17 and my nose isn't bumpy, it's straight. The problem is it's very WIDE at the bottom and I don't think it goes with my features. My lips are small, my eyes are small, and im not a large kid. I don't understand why my nose is so unproportional. I want to be a actor someday and I don't think ill get to if my nose looks so bad. I feel if my nose was smaller i'd look good. Help? :(
A: Correction of Large NoseHelp is definitely available to refine your nasal features. Your problem presents a special issue and can only be handled by a very experienced and well qualified specialist nasal surgeon. Your nose will always be noticable as a strong feature of your face and it will probably continue to irritate you.
It's Been 8 Months Since my Rhinoplasty and my Nose Looks the Same. Is This Normal?
I am African American. My PS narrowed my nostril and straightened my bridge. It now feels like there is a step off between the sides of my nose and my bridge. My doctor was supposed to make my nose looks slimmer. My PS is in NYC and has been performing nose jobs for 30 years. My PS gave me two rounds of steroids beginning at the 4th month.
A: 8 Months PostopThe description of your nasal problem you provided, indicates an issue with related to the way your nasal bones were cut during the surgery. It can be revised and your nose can be narrowed. Proper assessment can only be given upon clinical examination.
