I have partial facial paralysis of the right side of my face due to gillian barrae syndrome as a child. i have recently had a fascia lata sling put in the right side of my face to help make my smile more symmetrical but i have noticed also that one of my eyes is smalller especially when i smile. the surgeon suggested that a open eyebrow lift on the side that is partially paralysed would help open up my eye as well as botox under the eye to correct synkinesis. opionions on these options?
Dear Natasha,
I find that the problem with a brow lift when trying to correct an asymmetry is that it seldom works as well as the patient would like it to and some form of an asymmetry always persists. I agree with Dr. Yuan, it is worth it to try to treat the normal side with Botox to make the brows more even and the synkenesis on the affected side can definitely be treated as well. Best of luck.
Is endoscopic or full ear to ear forehead surgery the best choice to lift the eyelids? I have no forehead wrinkles but skin over (outside) of brow needs lifting
Hi Freddie,
From the description that you give of your problem it sounds that less invasive procedures would be better in your situation. An ear to ear forehead lift is not done too often anymore and would be overkill in your case. The endoscopic brow lift may help you, but we often find that it is not the best procedure for all comers. A transblepharoplasty brow lift with an Endotine device may be ideal in some cases and a subcutaneous brow lift via a small incision in the hair line can be easily done with great results most of the time. I hope this is helpful.

I had a Brow lift and Botox was used on my forehead now my smile is dead. I can not move my upper lip normally.
I had a beautiful smile before the brow lift now my upper lip does not move when I smile. I can pucker and move it find only when I smile it does not react.
The lift was done 2 weeks ago. My doctor is researching the cause but I do not feel comfortable with this situation.
A brow lift and Botox to the forehead should not affect your smile in a permanent way. However at just two weeks after surgery it possible that it is just related to swelling. As you know the bruising and swelling migrates downwards with gravity and you may still have some in your cheeks or upper lip which can change the appearance of your smile. This should resolve in the next 2 weeks. If it's not improving you may wish to consult a neurologist.
