I Had my First Velashape Treatment Done, and Was Shocked How Painful It Was, Is that Normal?

All I had read online was that it didnt hurt and there should only be some slight discomfort. OMG it was probably one of the mosty painful things I have gone thru. I had the back of my legs and sides done. Everything is super swollen today and red. I was told that it would hurt and she agreed that she was surprised too that she hadnt heard or read anything about the treatment being painful until she started velashape. Is it supposed to hurt or not? I can tolerate pain but this is crazy.

A: Mild discomfort but not supposed to be that painful

There can be mild bruising with the Velashape if used on higher settings but it shouldn't be that painful.  The treatment settings may have been too high for the anatomic area you were having treated.

A: Liposonix is the only FDA approved fat melting device in the U.S.

As of Dec 2011, I'm one of the first U.S. centers to offer Liposonix which just got FDA approved for fat reduction in the U.S. in November 2011.  It is the first FDA approved noninvasive fat melting device using high-intensity focused ultrasound.  There is no other device that can make this claim in the U.S.  It is nonsurgical liposuction, a revolutionary technologic breakthrough.  It is not a replacement for liposuction because you cannot remove the high volumes of fat possible thru liposuction but you can get about an inch reduction (2.5 cm) in fat per treatment per area.  The difference between Liposonix and UltraShape is that LIposonix is thermal ultrasound while UltraShape is nonthermal ultrasound.  Both devices cause lysis or destruction of the fat cells which is then resorbed by the body and excreted like a fatty meal.  UltraShape is not FDA approved or available in the U.S.

Velasmooth and Velashape do not alter or change the fat cells.  It is a noninvasive device that is used for mild skin tightening and cellulite--it is not a fat melting device.  The Vela however is more effective and longer lasting than endermologie for the treatment of cellulite.
