my research of mini dental implants leads me to beleive that they're preferrable and cost less than regular dental implants if you have a single tooth gap/problem. i'd like expert opinion about mini implants. do you recommend them for your patients? when?
Mini implants were made to stablize dentures and i only use them in my practice for this procedure. It is a wonderful way to make dentures comfortable for my patients. I would not go off label and try to use a mini implant to replace a single tooth. You have only one mouth and one set of teeth and i would do the right thing and have your periodontist of your general dentist put an regular implant to replace the missing tooth. It may be more expenisve but you will be happier in the long run.
My dentist wants almost $10,000.00 to do the lower right side of my mouth. Is it possible to get dental implants for a reasonable cost?
Most people have internet access. If your dentist has referred you to an implantologist or quoted his own fee that you find you unaffordable, you do have other options. Go online and look for an implant specialist in your area that is affordable and make sure you look at testimonials of other patients as well as his curriculum vitae (bio). This should give you an idea of his background and expertise. Medocal tourism is at all time high since our insurance covers less and less. Look into this. Just because a doctor practices in another country, other than the US, does not make him less comptent than a doctor here.
Again, look up his background, what hospital he works out of, what the facility is like, what labs they use and what materials the labs use for implants. In other words, do your homework. Make a list of qestiions you want to ask the specialists, prices and whether the consultation is free. Cost of implants vary according to area in the US and how well known the specialist is.... which does not always guarantee competency. The overall cost of a single implant (placement , abutment and crown can range from $3,200 to 4,000, but get more than one opinion and go online to check out other specialists. Hope this helps!
My grandparents both had dentures by the time they were in their late 60s. Are dental implants replacing dentures? If I replace my teeth as needed with dental implants throughout my life, can I eventually have a mouthful of implants and never need dentures? Or will the implants just serve as something to anchor dentures to?
There are two routes you can go and it all depends on what you can afford. Unfortunately, many dentists do not address how much the patient is comfortable in spending. Most people would opt for implants in a heart beat rather than have dentures. Implants run from $1,000 to $5,000 a tooth. Cost of a full mouth reconstruction can run from $24,000 to $100,000. An alternative to a full implant is the mini implant. It is narrower, and is used for missing teeth that are located in a narrow area, pre-molar teeth and it you choose dentures, they are used to stablize the dentures so they do not move.
Dentures cost anywhere from $1,200 to $2,800. The mini implants are placed to anchor the denture. Usually four are required and will run $2,400. In our dental practice, we offer both to our patients. We have a specialist working with us who does implants and I do mini implants. So the choice is yours! I would at least get two or three opinions from dental specialists and general dentists who do both procedures. You can always do one implant at a time. so you need to decide for yourself what will work best for you to be happy with your teeth and also be able to live within your budget and not be financially stressed out! Hope this helps!
