I live out of province from where i'm traveling to have my rhinoplasty done (24 hour drive). Is it a big deal to have the surgery, drive home, and have another surgeon in my home town do my post op (take off cast, make sure everything's ok)? Gets very expensive otherwise.
Thank you for the question.
Although I can understand your desire to have your surgery performed by a specific surgeon, I think it will be in your best interests to allow the same surgeon to take care of your immediate postop care. You are potentially compromising your end results if you choose to do otherwise.
I would suggest that you either make arrangements to stay longer or choose a surgeon closer to your hometown.
Best wishes.
It may sound a little impossible to answer but this is the main concern i have in my mind right now: i had 2 consultations with the 2 best surgeons in San Diego. I think they are the best based on references, years of experience and after i saw pictures of their work. Now, how do i really know which one to choose? And how do i know i won't get a bad result? What if something would go wrong? thank you
Thank you for your question.
If you are going into surgery expecting the results to be 100% “what you are looking for”, then there is a high likelihood that you will be disappointed with the results of surgery. As a matter of fact, if I were seeing a patient with these kinds of expectations I would not offer him/her the procedure. I tell patients that “perfect” is not achievable, and if I sense that the patient does not understand this concept I won't do the procedure.
I'm glad that you are doing your due diligence in your selection of plastic surgeon; you may also want to work on achieving realistic expectations. Both factors will be important if you wish to be satisfied with the end results of the surgery.
Best wishes.
Hi! I am a healthy 45 year old woman who is currently seeking primary rhinoplasty. I am finding that pre-op testing varies greatly from doctor to doctor. I understand having blood work done but is an EKG necessary for a patient with no heart problems? Thank you.
As you have found, every practice is different in their preoperative and postoperative “protocols”. In my practice, an EKG for healthy 45-year-old patient would not be mandatory. I would suggest that you discuss this concern with your plastic surgeon; he/she may very well feel comfortable with excluding it from your work up. If not, assuming you have done your due diligence in plastic surgeon selection, I would suggest having the EKG done and otherwise complying with your plastic surgeons' request.
Best wishes.
