i am freaking out, i had a tummy tuck 1 week ago, and i strained somewhat while going to the bathroom, since the pain meds have made me constipated all week and i was finally able to have a bowel movement. could i have ruined the results from using my stomach muscles in this way? im not sure if its all in my head, but i feel like i can feel the procedure just coming undone....please help!
It would be very unusual for the muscle tightening procedure to "come undone" from straining during the bowel movement. The muscle plication is usually performed in one or two layers of permanent sutures. It would be very difficult to tear that apart without experiencing severe pain. Most likely there was some pulling of the muscles and not a tear of the muscle repair. Remember to avoid heavy lifting, straining during bowel movements, and stay in your abdominal binder. Of course anytime you have a concern about your recovery, you should contact your plastic surgeon.
Hope you have a quick and comfortable recovery.
I cant stand up very long without my back killing me. I had a tummy tuck breast aug and lipo. I feel like crap. Is this normal 8 days post op?
Everyone recovers after surgery a little differently. What you are experiencing is normal after undergoing a tummy tuck, breast augmentatio, and liposuction. Allow yourself several weeks for recovery. I would suggest wearing comfortable clothing when you have the drains removed. Sweat pants are ideal as they are not tight and can be easily pulled up and down.
hope you have a quick and comfortable recovery
I am scheduled for a tummy tuck. I take baths every night and was wondering if I need to refrain from that and switch to showering??!!
Dear TT3912,
In general you can resume showering much earlier than taking a bath. Before soaking in a bath tub, swimming pool, or Jacuzzi we would like the wound to be water tight and most surgeon will not allow you to do this for several weeks. When it comes to taking a shower most surgeons are little more liberal and will allow you to shower within two to three days. Remember you will have drains after the surgery and your Plastic Surgeon is the best person to guide you after surgery. Wound healing and wound care is a specialty of Plastic Surgery and your Plastic Surgeon will have specific instructions on when it is safe to shower or bathe.
Hope you have a quick and comfortable recovery.
