What Are the Types of Sclerotherapy Options?

What agents are used for different types of Sclerotherapy? Does everyone use the same strength solution, or does it depend on the severity of the varicose veins being treated?

A: Sclerotherapy and lasers

There are a few choices when it comes to using a solution for sclerotherapy. I have used them all, and they all do work. Depending on the size of the blood vessel, one can use more concentrated solutions. However, the risk of complications also can increase.

I have found that combining sclerotherapy with the Vbeam laser can really help get better results. Some tiny veins are too small to be injected and the laser gets rid of them in as few as one treatment!

Spider Vein Treatment Side-effects? which side effects from vein treatment are possible?
A: Risks of sclerotherapy of spider veins

Sclerotherapy is a safe treatment if done by an experienced surgeon.  The American Board of Phlebology is the governing board for vein specialists.  There are many risks with any procedure.  However, the most common with sclerotherapy are pigmentation, recurrence of the spider vein, and tissue extravasation.

Can Sclerotherapy Treat Facial Veins?

I have a vein under my eye that I would like treated. This is a single larger vein, not spider veins.  Is facial sclerotherapy a possiblity?

A: Treating spider veins around the eyes

Lower eyelid broken capillaries and veins can be treated with a number of different techniques, none of which is the gold standard.  I would prefer to treat these veins with puncture ligation or laser.  Ligation, as stated by Dr. Hratch Karamanoukian, is an ideal treatment for larger sized vessels.
