Can I Get Lipo Instead of Tummy Tuck? (photo)

I'm 30 y/o 5'4 127 lbs and have 4 kids. I dont have much bulging I just want my waist back, I have like 2 strech marks under my belly button and my skin is not wrinkly. I really dont want a tummy tuck because of the scar, I dont have any scars, but I also dont want lose wrinkly skin. Which would be a better choice?

A: Tummy Tuck Versus Liposuction

Hello Mother in CA,

You will not be happy with the results of liposuction of your abdomen, regardless of whether it is ultrasonic, water jet, or laser assisted.  The reality is that none of these procedures can effectively tighten skin or the attachments of the skin to the underlying muscle, and will leave your skin unpredicably wavy or irregular in contour.  Abdominoplasty incisions can be very low and can potentially heal to be nearly inconspicuous.  Many patients feel comfortable wearing two piece bathing suits again.

Some individuals simply cannot tolerate any scar however, and therefore would be at a decision crossroad to do nothing at all, or go forward with liposuction alone, with full understanding of the limitations of that procedure.

You should meet with a few doctors who are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and are members fo the Amercian Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

Best of luck!

Post-Baby, Can I Do Liposuction or Do I Need a Tummy Tuck?

I am a 29 year old mom of three. I am 5'2" and currently 136 lbs, my waist 37" presently. I have a 5 week old son and normally are 128-130 lbs. I have a lot of stretch marks and loose skin below belly button and stretch marks along the sides. My belly button is also misshapen. I want a flatter more contoured stomach to match my active lifestyle. I am OK with living with stretch marks and am more concerned with how I look in clothing versus naked or in a bikini. Will a reputable doctor do lipo?

A: Liposuction versus Tummy Tuck after Babies

Dear Heatherm716,

You are an ideal candidate for tummy tuck.  This procedure is usually performed with some liposuction as well.  In addition to removing fat, a tummy tuck removes redundant or extra skin, and tightens the abdominal muscular wall, neither or which is affected by liposuction alone.

Please consult with a few doctors certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Best of luck!

Which Lipo Procedure Would Fix Fat On The Axillary Area and Upper Arm Liposuction on Active Female?

I'm a 29 year old active female interested in getting liposuction on the axillary area and upper arms. I'm very active (5'3 and 120 lbs) but cannot get definition in my arms and I have unsightly fat that hangs over all of my strapless clothing. I'm confused by the different liposuction procedures - smartlipo, vaser, tumescent, PAL, UAL, etc. Can someone please help clarify the differences, or perhaps recommend one? Is the recovery period different for each of these procedures?

A: Liposuction Techniques

Hello Smallfixes,

It's not the machine, its the doctor!!!!!!

The most important point we've obtained from good clinical research, that gets drowned out by the marketing noise, is that the various liposuction techniques only help the doctor, they do not have an influence on the result.  Vaser, UAL, PAL, or laser devices do not produce a different or better result than standard liposuction and all of them rely on standard liposuction to get the job done.  Contrary to advertisements, none shrink skin more effectively than standard liposuction.  Recovery times are similar.

Find a surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery or the American Board of Dermatology with a great reputation and look at his results.  That's the choice you should be making!

Best of luck!
