Some people are slow to produce collagen during sculptra treatments and some produce it quickly. Could lifestyle be a factor? Could it be that lots of stress, lack of sleep, starvation or poor quality food, smoking, taking certain drugs or doing excessive strenuous exercise cause the body to struggle to make collagen? Could it be that a healthy amount of sleep, relaxation, eating good quality food, not smoking or taking drugs could mean the body makes collogen more easily?
It is well-known that nicotine in cigarette smoking accelerates rate of metabolism. It is imperative that one stops smoking so that the fillers injected may last a little longer. I have found among my Sculptra patients, smokers appear to have less collagen stimulation and volume replenishment compared to non-smokers. Similarly, fillers injected for smokers seem to not as long as the non-smokers.
I had to have a short 5 day low dose course of Prednisone to deal with poison ivy. I had sculptra almost three months ago and had already seen filling occuring. Now just two days after the Prednisone, my face literally looks deflated. Is that possible? It was working so well.
While a prolonged course of prednisone immediately after Sculptra injection may potentially hamper optimal stimulation of collagen by Sculptra, it is unlikely that a low-dosed short course of prednisone 3 months after last Sculptra injection would have any significant impact.
July 2008 I had Sculptra injected under my eyes. Visible nodules developed within 3 weeks, though I massaged as instructed. They are still visible, I look like I have double bags (due to the nodules pushing out the skin above my cheeks), and are still painful (3 years later). I need to find a Colorado Doctor I can trust to help me fix this. I phoned my provider's office last month & was told "Sculptra doesn't last more than 2 yrs. She won't see you!!!!" Can anyone help me?
First of all, nodularies along lower eyelids from Sculptra can be avoided by NOT injecting it there. Almost all appropriately trained Sculptra aesthetic physicians know to avoid the area given how thing the skin is. Surgical excision is the way to go in this situation. Otherwise nodularities from Sculptra elsewhere done on the face is exceedingly rare with current dilution protocol, mixing it 48 hrs prior, vigorous massaging for 5 days, and avoidance of lower eyelids.
