I just had Radiesse placed in my cheeks and in the creases around my mouth. If I now get an Active FX laser treatment- will it ruin and or evaporate my Radiesse?
There is really no issue with laser resurfacing using Fractional CO2 laser after filler injection using either Radiesse or hyaluronic acid fillers, based on a recent literature and my personal clinical experience. In fact, I routinely perform filler injections to replenish volume and smooth age lines prior to laser resurfacing to maximize the aesthetic outcome. Laser resurfacing can be more effective when performed over a 'stretched skin' after filler injections vs. a 'laxed skin' overlying an area of diminished volume.
8-9 weeks post active fx, with no pre-treatment, have developed PIH on both cheeks. I am light skinned, a touch of olive. Compounded 8% hydroquinone/tretinoin is way too irritating for my skin. Someone suggested IPL, but I am just not sure. Also heard it can take 3-6 months to resolve. I have hydroquinone 4% which does not irritate, but does not seem to be doing anything, either. I think my skin is very sensitive. Does any doctor have any hope to offer? THANK-YOU!
While pretreatment for ethnic skin prior to fractional co2 laser resurfacing can minimize post-treatment pigmentation, there is no guarantee. When post-treatment pigmentation does happen, combination of hydroquinone, prescription strength topical retinoid, sun protection should be part of the therapy. Superficial chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and Q-switched Nd:Yag laser can be quite helpful. IPL should be avoided for post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation as it can make it worse.
What medication for pain do other plastic surgeons use while performing Active FX on a patient’s whole face? I was given 2 Vicodin, 1 Xanax and in addition they used a topical analgesic on my face.
Despite all that, it felt like someone was holding a burning cigarette butt to my face, and I could smell the burning flesh, esp. when being lasered near my nose. I never take either of those meds, and do not consider myself as having a low pain threshold.
Was I unusual? The doctor seemed surprised I still felt that much discomfort. I am a 50 year old fair skinned, blue eyed brunette who had sun spots on her face, no other skin issues.
We utilize mild sedation for fractional CO2 laser resurfacing including Demerol, doxepin, and lorazepam. You obviously would need transportation leaving the office.
