I am a 27 year old male with moderate acne,VERY oily skin and also VERY big pores. I just got off antiobiotics,BP and aczone which helped for awhile but not long enough. Will accutane permanently shrink the appearance of my huge pores as well as decrease my oily skin? My hair on my scalp is pretty dry. Will that increases that side-effects of baldness or loss of hair? I would do anything to make my pores or "orangepeel" skin go away.My oily skin makes my pores look even worse. Thank you!
Isotretinoin or Accutane is indicated for severe nodulocystic acne. It exerts a semi-permanent effect in shrinking oil glands and decreasing oil production from sebaceous glands. Some of my patients have reported reduction of pores and acne scarring after a successful course of Accutane. if you are not ready to undergo Accutane, Nd:Yag based lasers such as Spectra laser or Cutera GenesisPlus can be helpful to reduce size of pores.
I've Only Taken 12 40mg Pills of Accutane, and Was Wondering Since I've Taken So Little That I'd Be able to Have a Microderm?
It's commonly agreed upon protocol among core aesthetic physicians that ablative (even partially ablative) skin procedures should be postponed for 6 months after Accutane. However, I would not place microdermabrasion in that category and we have plenty of patients who have done fine with gentle microdermabrasion performed under supervision of a board-certified dermatologist.
I took Accutane for 6 weeks and stopped. I will not be continuing with it anymore. Can I have laser hair removal on my chin area, say in 2 months?
There is always a risk of blistering from laser hair removal, even if the practitioner uses the same parameters that you tolerated fine in the past. Therefore, it would not be wise to rush into hair laser removal within 4-6 months after completion of Accutane to minimize hypertrophic scarring.
